I think he's a good Vermeil type overseer.....but time will run out and it won't matter due to public perception.
However, you have to admit we have had NO QB here despite trying with SB and drafting a new one.
Show me a studly run team where the HC consistently won games with a back-up QB. Even the Great and Powerful Bruce Arians
couldn't manage that consistently. It takes a very decent QB to pull off consistent wins and this is where I think you have not been fair to Fisher and his record here as a Ram. He's had a solid QB in Year 1...and that's it.
Fish has rebuilt e
very other facet of the team - 2/3s of the team, in fact - to a level that
you like alot...D & STs. We draft well and sign UDFAs well...now we are signing FAs with more discretion too....and collecting the comp picks from defections. THAT is smart business.
But, in a league where QBs rule - Fisher has not
had one since Year 1......and been forced to play with 2nd & 3rd string castaways due to SB's ACL inadequacies
. Before you say Fisher shoulda drafted a QB...we had one in SB & Foles.
Sorry, but that's where you & I differ. I feel fisher has down a very good job building this team to a .500 team sans just one player....a QB. Hopefully, now we got one and he can grow in the next few years.
The Ram O's under Fisher were not merely deficient at QB, Sun. I only wish...
If we're gonna be honest, his O's have struggled at just about every position.
QB
C
OG
OT (until Hav in Fisher's 4th year)
TE
WR
And he's drafted a RB every year until he's finally got Gurley.
He had the worst rated O in the league last year, for cryin' out loud.
And btw, isn't it part of the HC's job description to ensure that quality starters are found and developed at every position? Certainly including QB?
It's not as if QB's are found or not found, developed or not developed in a vacuum. The HC is supposed to oversee every facet of his team.
Fisher has done a fine job on the D and ST facets. But on the O? Not so much.
I think the Dick Vermeil comparison speaks volumes, frankly. Sorry...
