To those that think that Goff is untouchable? Not so fast.
We’ve seen Snead/McVay make many a bold move in these 4 years together, so it might be a mistake to label any move unthinkable.
Consider these personnel decisions that allowed quality players to leave the Rams for one reason or another and these are just off the top of my head:
Watkins
Cooks
Peters
Saffold
Gurley
Brockers (we got lucky later)
Fowler
Matthews
Littleton
I think we’re gonna lose a few more this offseason.
Everett
JJ
Hill
Floyd
So, if circumstances arose in just the right way? We might find ourselves a new QB next year either to compete with Goff or as his outright replacement. Remember, such a QB would be McVay’s first one that he’s actually chosen with the thought of becoming his future starter. Such a QB would be mobile, smart, and a quick processor of information on the field. Might be a draft pick, a FA, or a trade. Who knows? But is there anything more important to a football team than having a good and consistent QB?
Please don’t tell me that the cap makes this impossible. Almost anything is possible if all parties want it to happen AND are all thinking long term benefit.
Some will call this heresy, but I’m just sharing my gut feelings based upon everything I know about all facets of our QB situation plus a healthy dose of my knowledge about human nature gained in my travels.
