I'll be happy to see Bennett do this in preseason:
1. Look like he is comfortable out there, showing command and not just taking off with the ball.
2. Be accurate.
If he doesn't impress then the thinking from the Rams will be "we can get him through waivers." Which will drive the decision to cut him, stick him on the PS, and gain a critical roster spot.
He basically needs to play well enough to end that thought process. And again I am not interested in writing him off just yet.
He's shown an ability to beat out better players in the past, also the fact he's still on the roster and Jimmy is not on the roster speaks in his favor as well.
Why am I not remembering that? lol
Can you please refresh my memory of which "better players" he beat out?
As for him still being "on the roster and Jimmy G is not" is because Jimmy G "moved on" leaving the Rams with no other options. Bennett is still here because our only other option for QB2 is a very green QB who only started 15 games in college and in no where near ready to assume the QB2 spot.
I don't see any teams "hoping" Bennett gets cut so they can "snatch him up" unless they need a good "scout team" QB. lol
He had no business starting over guys who had much more talent than him. Carson Beck for example. Not that Beck's great or anything. But look at Bennett. He's a shrimp of a QB. The only reason he won and held that job, and the reason he won two titles at Georgia is the dude has a lot of heart.
Now I see you got another reply trying to make like I or others are championing Bennett. That is not the case. I am simply giving the dude some credit for what he did in college. He's a runt at the position, and he's unlikely to ever be a starter at the NFL level. But I am not of the mind right now to write him off as QB2. Because, in the end, if you look around this league at QB2s, I don't think he suffers all that much by comparison.
Ideally Simpson will win the backup role. That also frees up a roster spot with the Rams keeping two QBs. Unfortunately we need to wait and see how it plays out, and Bennett may have something to say about it.
