Milroe's NFL projection has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not Simpson should have been able to beat him out in college.
But he did put up good numbers for a 12-2 Bama team that lost in the 1st round of the CFB playoffs to the eventual NCAA Champion Michigan Wolverines prior to Deboer's arrival..
Of course it matters. If Simpson could not beat out a guy who is going to be a backup in the NFL at one of the top programs in college ball, that certainly factors in to this conversation.
I think the value of taking Simpson is they feel he can step in relatively early if needed. McVay should be able to win if necessary with his skills. From there who knows. I'm rooting for the kid and I like him, but I have no interest in crowning him.
