The Met was a tough place to play in the Winter in that Playoff game vs Vikes in 69 Deacon talks about it in his book when the Rams were up 17-7 in the 2nd half looking to add more a potential TD or FG the Rams were inside the 15 after a big play but a Ref thru a flag for holding as Deacon explained the Viking D Player knocked the Ram to the Ground but the Ref thought it was a takedown but it wasn't Deacon continued to say had the Rams gone up 24-7 the Vikes would not have comeback & back then holding calls were 15 yds, also Deacon said he lost faith in officiating then. That game was considered one of the most vicious hard-hitting games of All-time. Then the Mud Bowl in 77 Knox turned & looked at Namath in the 2nd half in a look can you go & Namath nodded no. Namath in an interview later felt bad & explained it was a torn Hamstring. Knox was the Jets OL Coach in 67 but left to be the Lions OL Coach in 68. A tough one for Knox as he missed out Winning a SB with Namath & the Jets in 68 something that eluded him his whole career sadly. GO RAMS!
Thanks for that info BR. A lot of that, I didn't know. I always enjoy reading your posts. Your contributions to this board are appreciated by me and many others!
You make me want to go read Deacon's book now! lol
I do remember the mud bowl but vaguely. It's such a shame Namath was just a shell of his former self. Although his time as a Ram was very short, it still was cool seeing him in horns!
Knox was a h#ll of a HC. His one weakness was not being able to evaluate QB's good enough but his teams were always competitive. I have lots of very fond memories of his time as a Rams HC and he is part of the reason I loved the Rams so much!
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
