Conversely, how good was Garrett before Shwartz? He's only been with the team for three years.

To answer my own questions, he played his first 6 seasons without Schwartz, had 7 sacks his rookie year and then was double digits the next 5, accumulating 74.5 sacks over those 6 seasons.
