Speed: What team has ever had not just excellent starters at every position, but also essentially starters 1B across the board as back-ups?
I can't agree with your assessment. Nobody can have stars sitting behind stars. Teams that even remotely try that wind up with poor chemistry and disgruntled players who want to be traded.
Weakness is a strong word. The Rams have no weaknesses. Are they better is some areas than in others? Of course. But even where they aren't great, they are very good.
You MUST have role players, and situational players, and development players to round out an effective roster. Superstars in the right places; not in every place.
And, I think you discount guys coming into their 2nd years (maybe 3rd) that were later picks that the Rams have been developing. Take Mumpfield for instance. A late pick that played extensively last year in the shadow or 2 all-time great WRs. I have little doubt this young man will play more and at an even higher level this year. Ferguson ditto. Stewart ditto.
And, don't sneeze at the 5 picks the Rams made this year. Most of the better professional NFL former GMs, scouts and HCs, rate Klare very high. They rate Trost very high. Don't be suprised if Trost is one of the 8 OL activated for each game this year. Watch out for Daniel. That young man can flat ball-out at WR.
Lake can do anything and everything in the secondary (yeah, I wouldn't want him to be a starter at outside CB but he can certainly rotate into that spot on certain D plays). Curl was vastly underrated last year. He is a terrific Safety.
One other guy that I think is being vastly underrated: Bennett. Bennett has played a lot of ball for the Rams. He knows the O inside and out. He has moxy. He has a far better arm that he is given credit for. True, he has NOT played as a starter in regular season games. So, there is that element of the unknown. But, IMO if given a chance, he'll do well.
