As things stand Burrow won't be a free agent until 2030. Possible issues with waiting until then: the Bengals might extend him before then or he might prefer to sign with someone else if he actually does hit the open market.
Trading for Burrow before 2030 is a possibility, but what if the Bengals don't want to trade him? What if they do want to trade him but another team makes a better offer? If a team trades for Burrow they inherit his contract and he's owed $44M in '27, $53.5M in '28, and $57.5M in '29.
FWIW the Rams will have Simpson for 4 years, $25.41M ('26, '27, '28, and '29), an average of $6.35M a year and can exercise their 5th year option after the 2028 season to lock Simpson in for 2030 if they so desire.
