I agree that picking up a vet could be a good move for all the reasons you listed. But banking on bringing in a vet carries it's own set of risks.
If it was simply a matter of grabbing a vet QB whenever the mood stuck you'd think the Steelers would have gone that route at some point after Roethlisberger retired following the 2021 season. Yet they have had 6 different QBs in the 4 years since then and are still looking.
The last pro bowl QB the Jets have had was Brett Favre in 2008. 17 seasons and 16 QBs later (including the vet poster boy, Sam Darnold) the Jets are still looking for a franchise QB. Why haven't they found a vet QB to lead their team?
The Rams took a shot at avoiding those situations. It may or may not pan out. The thing is, in the unlikely event that Simpson flushes out the Rams still have all the options you and I listed available to them. But if they waited to sign a vet to shake loose who could become their franchise QB for the Rams and that guy didn't materialize I'm pretty sure the Rams would regret not drafting Simpson.
All valid points AlbaNY except I have to point out that the Steelers and Jets are not the Rams. Those 2 organizations do not compare to the Rams.
Imo, the reason those 2 franchises you mention are losing franchises that cannot develop or select the right right players anyway. There is a reason neither team has been to a SB or even deep in the playoffs.
Who do you think has a better chance of resurrecting a vet QB project or even develop a rookie QB, the Rams and McVay or either of them?
I know who I would choose and it's not even close.
It's all good. Having said all that, I am sure the Rams are the best spot for a rookie QB to land as well as a vet. I just prefer the vet option for all those reasons I mentioned before.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
