If Jimmy G wants a last shot at being a starting QB the Rams are a bad choice. He may be looking at where he can go where the starter has a high probability of failure or where he can battle for the number 1 job.
Rams can't offer that. His only chance at starting is if Stafford goes down for an extended period of time. If that happens we are probably cooked anyway.
Here’s an alternative possible Jimmy G viewpoint.
Stafford may retire after this year, particularly if Rams win SB which would give Jimmy a good shot to become starter right here.
Rams are gonna be loaded so a SB win is a definite possibility right here giving Jimmy G a ring.
Rams will pay him millions to carry a clipboard in worst case scenario.
Great coaches and teammates and atmosphere here as opposed to some other opportunities on mediocre teams. I think this one is huge in his mind.
Jimmy G. isn't getting any younger. I think if he is your starter for the year you are in trouble if you hope to contend for the Super Bowl. Plus how does Jimmy G. even know that next season will be the last for Stafford. I agree with all of your points but his best shot at being a starter is probably with another team.
As for Jimmy G as a bridge starter I have serious doubts. If he is such a good choice why isn't another team beating down his door to be a starter? The league doesn't seem to view him as a viable starting QB because if they did they would sign him for a better contract than he is getting with the Rams.
