Yep... I think you are right based upon previous patterns.
I do hope that they can "fix" CB, Off-Ball LB and WR #3 all through FA. Hopefull a swing T through FA too.
Not sure they have the $ to fix them all with top-notch veterans but I really think they need to make sure they land a FA cornerback that can come in and start from day #1. And, I would sacrifice an off-ball LB and WR #3 to get 2 CBs that are both ready to roll and improvements on last year's CBs.
I just don't see a CB that everyone sees as a certain future all-pro this season. There is no Gardner, Surtain, Stingley Jr. or Witherspoon coming ot the year. If there was, he'd be gone prior to pick #13 (based upon recent history), anyway. Mansoor Delane and Jermod McCoy (if his medicals are pretty much perfect) are likely the only 2 that are even close to those other guys. But neither, in my opinion, is worth picking at 13. That has to factor into what the Rams are thinking as well. Assuming that they see it like I do.
Based upon previous patterns and some recent interviews (noted in other post on this board), I think the Rams are going to grab what they see as the greatest potential impact player, regardless of position, with pick #13. Or, maybe drop back 2-4 spots if they have 5 guys that they think can have an instant impact. The Rams march to a beat of a different drum and I wouldn't be surprised to see them draft Love or the TE from Oregon an edge/OLB or a DL at 13 even though many would say we are set at RB,TE, OLB and DL for now.
I really think you are going to see a run on Defense and OL in the picks leading up to #13 and that could drop 1 of these crazy offensive skill players right in the Rams lap. If they have taken care of the CBs in FA, then I'm all for it.
Let's say a new offensive toy is good for 3 points more per game next season (say 6 TDs and help putting the team to kick 5 more field goals than they would without that player). And let's say the Rams CBs are just a little bit better this upcoming season. If their health is good, the Rams would certainly be a SB contender (maybe the favorites in LV) next season.
