Thanks for posting all the information, I really appreciate it.
I'm kind of wondering if we are going to see the safety position reevaluated over the next few years. I think this way because of guys like Hamilton and Emanwori. This kind of guy are kind of redefining what and how a safety plays. These kind of safeties have really seemed to change the position a bit. These guys are 6'2" tall or around there, they are also around the 220lb mark and they can still run. They play the pass and the run equally well, they are like having an extra DB on a pass play or an extra ILB on a run play in a single player. I think Thienamen from Oregon is also this kind of safety. I'm still not convinced that Downs at only 205 can be as effective as these 2 guys in 3 or 4 years in the Pros. Downs is a great player, but I always try to remember that he was surrounded by NFL talent level players this year at the same time. If you can get 95% of the same result with less draft capital, why not?
Although I admittedly don't watch college much, this year I think players like AJ Haulcy are really interesting and could really transform our secondary. He can cover well and hits like a truck. I wouldn't mind getting him in the 2nd round at all. Obviously he will cost a lot less draft capital than Downs and perhaps even give you a better result or very similar.
This doesn't mean that we don't need an upgrade for the CB room.
