Is being able to play man coverage a problem?
Rams mainly play off-man zone coverage but mix in some man-to-man here and there. Unless the Rams want to change schemes then Hood just said that what he is best at and what he prefers to do is not what the Rams are doing defensively.
Did they play that because they wanted to or did they play that due to limited talent?
And I think the answer is the latter. Shula's not stupid. He didn't have a lot of flexibility in how he was gonna call it due to the pieces he's got on that back end.
But it's possible it's the former. He did after all decide to stand pat with that group last offseason.
Now maybe that was the team acknowledging you can't fix everything in one offseason. I hope so at least, because I want a dominant defense that can mix it up pre and post snap and match up different ways on different weeks.
