Interesting, Merlin
thanks for so many thoughts on the class
Klubnik was marked by a couple of guys here at the start of the year. And he showed well in parts of the prior year.
But he did not look the part in the snaps I saw this year. Just hard to grade this one for me.
Nussmeier showed such great promise. Outright hot at times, but seems only when I watched him. Other games clearly didn't go so well.
I don't know that I'd be excited to see any of this year's QBs land with us.
Yeah this class is a disappointment, there is no doubt. And I agree Klubnik disappointed. I am not trying to build something that isn't there.
What I am doing is saying "who's a guy we can get midrounds that can be a QB2, who fits the scheme with movement and enough arm. A buy-low option let's say round 5 that we can take who can slide into the QB2 role when Bennett leaves after this season. That gives him a full year to learn as QB3 in 2026 then take over and we don't have to pay a backup.
Also I think there is a slight chance he might have QB1 in him. Not a great chance, but if he jives with McVay and works hard we'll see but either way the key is no high pick requirement to invest in him.
Or do they want one of the bigger guys who are more raw, with more tools. Like Payton for example. Rams are a great fit for any of those given that they come with an automatic redshirt.
