Caleb Downs by many accounts is a "generational-type elite football player".
We had one of those when we won SBLVI, Aaron Donald, and SBXXXIV, Orlando Pace.
One could argue that we need a generational type guy on the roster even just to make it to a SB. Youngblood in SBXIV, Pace in SBXXXVI, AD in SBLIII.
We lost the NCCG because we couldn't get Darnold frazzled enough to see ghosts like he did against us in Arizona the year before as the Viking QB.
If the Buckeye HC is right and "Downs can play every D position except DT" then Downs cud be our phantom blitzer, a la the Kinchens sack of Darnold....only more often. Imagine what sneaky schemes Shula could cook up for a monster stud like Downs, eh!
Snead's former protege, Jax GM Gladstone, raised eyebrows 14 months ago, when he traded up to get two-way Colorado freak Travis Hunter, who ultimately got hurt in 2025, but that bold move surely help to inspire the formerly feckless Jaguars to one more 2025 Regular Season WIN (13) than our own Los Ramos.
So I say let's be bold and trade up, if need be, to land Caleb Downs early in the 2026 Draft. Besides the huge influx in D talent level, it will allow us to more easily and painlessly let our safety Curl and our CB Williams walk and free up additional 2026 cap dollars for our big SBLXI push.
Stafford playing at his 2025 MVP level for the next couple of seasons is NOT an automatic given. We need some elite talent on the D side. Let's go get Downs!!!
