There was a time when many people heaped praise on Shula and I thought maybe that was too much sugar in the coffee. Now some are dumping on him like he's a failure. His track record shows he's done an average job in both 2025, (slightly above avg. against the run, and below avb. against the pass), and 2024. Everyone seems to agree that we have a weak pass defense and poor coverage by our LB corps (Troy Reeder is our baseline). It isn't a surprise that we're weak there.
I'm more optimistic than my friend 43 about next year. My goodness, we've had such a great run with McVay et. al., I'm not too down about everything because I know our team will be a top heavyweight contender next year. I expect us to again be in the final four barring any terrible events.
I’m willing to give Shula a limited benefit of the doubt, but this season might be our last strong SB window and we can ill afford to waste it. So, emphasis’limited’.
I’m reasonably sure that Stafford will play this year (might require some contract tweaking), but 2027 is up in the air QB wise. So Shula really needs to get his ‘stuff’ together quickly to maximize our 2026 chances.
Fingers crossed that the new chess pieces he’s gonna receive will make his job relatively easy this season as far as scheming.
