Downs or WR or Love

February 02, 2026 03:57PM
Hi Guys, thanks for the interesting and informative discussion on the draft. As I was reading your discussion I was thinking this:

1. If I were the Rams I would be thinking that I want to get a game-changing type of player with my first pick. If for whatever reason I can't get that, trade back and get an extra pick or two.
2. Furthering my chain of thought in this direction, I think the only 3 game-changers for this year are: 1) Love, 2) One of the top WRs (I don't watch any college so I don't really know which one) and finally 3) Downs.
  1. Love: Although our RB room is above average, we don't have a home run RB. I think Love would give us that. Love would really change the dynamic of our offense. Defenses don't worry about our RBs because they don't have top speed. I think Love would change this and give us a couple long runs a game. Love also has the size and weight to be a super star style RB in the NFL.
  2. WR: I can see the Rams also going in this direction. This would give them a superior #3 WR for this year and the replacement for DA in the coming years. Also, if the caliber of the WR is as high as some people are rating them, then they could very well be 1B or even 1A WR on the team depending on how Nacua goes along in the future.
  3. Downs: This player could be a Kyle Hamilton or Derwin James (I would even add Emanwori) type of safety. It's exactly as stated above, this means you never have to change to nickel or dime or base. This kind of safety can play LB, can play Safety and can play CB. This is very advantageous because the offense can never really know if the defense is playing to stop the run or the pass. One thing about Downs though is that he is only 205. Hamilton, James and Emanwori are all close to 220. So, I'm not sure if Downs can really play like these 3 in the LB role.

I can't really see any other player that the Rams would use #13 on. I doubt any of the above 3 last past 13, none of them might even make it to #13 as far as that goes.

Anyway, that's my take for the top pick this year. Let's see.
