This may sound radical, but for all the McVay is a great coach, he makes a lot of head scratching calls. Sometimes I’m surprised how successful he is. He seems to let up at the most critical time. I don’t think he is elite.

McVay didn't make those horrible defensive calls....

but as far as the offense goes, people don't realize how much control Stafford has on what play is actually ran whether it is a run or pass....I think McVay is and has proven to be elite with only one losing season in his first 9 seasons(mostly due to an avalanche of injuries in 2022) and usually puts this team in position to win most games.,,Has his team the odds on favorite to win the Super Bowl and could have his team in their 3rd one in 9 years....

If there was a draft for coaches next season he'd most likely be the number one pick

I always tend to put more wieght into players executing on offense .... take away the three turnovers and we win in another 10+ point win

How do you know how much control Stafford has that the rest of us don't realize?

Sure, we all know that Stafford can check out of a pass to a run, etc... like most QB's.

But let's not pretend McVay is not calling the shots on every play.

Most plays are executed as called.

and how do you know that? spin tounge smiley

this isn't high school football

Matthew Stafford has the authority to check in or out of plays at the line of scrimmage, which effectively means he can change the call from a run to a pass (or vice-versa) based on the defense he reads.
While Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay generally calls the plays, the quarterback has significant control over the final execution:
Pre-snap Adjustments: Stafford is highly regarded for his ability to diagnose defensive formations and blitzes before the snap and adjust the play call or protection scheme accordingly. This often involves changing the intended play (run or pass) to better exploit the defense's alignment.

Reading the Defense: If the original play call is a run but the defense is aligned perfectly to stop it (e.g., a "heavy box"winking smiley, Stafford can "check out" of the run and into a passing play, and vice versa.
Trust and Experience:

Teammates and coaches have noted that "whatever (Stafford) says, goes," indicating the high level of trust they have in his ability to make the right decision on the field. This veteran presence and understanding of the system allow him to have a great deal of control over the run/pass decision.
In short, while the initial play comes from the sideline, Stafford is given the freedom to make the final determination based on what he sees from the defense in real-time.
