Here's how I currently have them ranked:
1. Fernando Mendoza, Indiana (Jr.), 6-5, 225 lbs.
Mendoza has emerged as my clear No. 1. His total numbers are off the chart, but I'm particularly impressed by his combination of 9.5 yards/attempt and only 6 sacks taken in over 200 pass plays. That tells me that he knows how to get rid of the ball without being a "Captain Checkdown." He could very well end up being the No. 1 pick in the draft, so we'd (absent a complete collapse by the Falcons) likely have to be willing to make a big investment to get him.
He's my #1 QB as well and I'm not sure what he can do to drop from that spot. He made a throw this weekend, where he was moving to his left, squared up his body like he was shuffling along a free throw line and threw a dart to his right. moving left, throwing right and put it in the only place he could to complete the pass and not have it intercepted. He's a legit talent.
2. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina (Soph.), 6'3, 240 lbs.
If Matthew Stafford were to announce that this is his last year, I don't know that I'd want to draft and immediately play a guy like Sellers. If he is given time to acclimate and learn before he's plugged in, though, I think he has an extremely high ceiling. Josh Allen is the comparator I keep coming back to, as Sellers has that size and dual-threat ability, along with a very strong arm, but needs some refining. He may be out of our reach without a trade as well so, again, we'd need to be willing to draft for the future.
He is still my #2, but he needs a year at least. But in the right situation, he could become unstoppable, in the wrong situation, he could end up like Justin Fields or Anthony Richardson. He is the lowest floor/highest ceiling guy on this list IMO.
3. Dante Moore, Oregon (Soph.), 6'3, 206 lbs.
Another QB who impresses me with his pocket presence and ability to get the ball out on time. That is so key in the NFL today, particularly for a QB who is not built like a brick house. He is extremely adept at the deep ball, and has a lightning quick release. He could also be a guy who, if the Falcons continue to struggle as they have in the last two weeks, could be available to us without a trade.
He is my #6 for now, he is great in a clean pocket, but he just seems to be missing something. I cannot put my finger on it, and I can not quantify it either.
4. Ty Simpson, Alabama (Jr.), 6'2, 208 lbs.
Simpson has the skill set for early success. He has good arm strength, accuracy, pocket presence and a fast release. I'm always a bit weary of QBs who thrive on teams with an overabundance of talent, but I see enough in Simpson to be intrigued. Would I take him in the Top 20 picks? Jury's still out on that one. Would I take him with the Rams pick (No. 32)? Quite possibly.
Alyo made me go back and watch some more of him and every game I see, he is just rock solid. Most accurate QB in the draft. Is mobile, does not turn over the football and has NFL arm strength. He needs to add some bulk much like Nussmeier, and his sample size is small. He would be my #3
5. John Mateer, Oklahoma (Jr.), 6'1, 224 lbs.
At this point, the prospects I'm looking at are probably more Day 2 options. Mateer does some good things and has some intriguing traits. His numbers, though, don't shine through, and his side-arm delivery drives me batty. Still, he could be an interesting prospect to develop at the right price.
My #4 right now. The side arm thing is wonky, but its getting better, I think. He's got an NFL arm, is a dual threat, but he looks to throw while on the move, tucks and runs either by play design or when left no open options. He's a swagger factory that reminds me of Mayfield, but everything I've heard is he is a great character guy.
Not mentioned was my #5. Jayden Maiava from USC. 6'-4" 230 with a monster arm and can win with his legs when needed. He has increased his completion percentage over 8% from last year and his TD to INT ratio went from worse than 2 to 1 last year to almost 4 to 1 this year. He's a Jr and without a first round grade I can see him going back.
Others: Garrett Nussmeier, LSU; Drew Allar, Penn State; Cade Klubnik, Clemson
Allar is unfortunate. Penn St went sideways and Franklin and Allar are going to take the blame. He regressed from last year and now is injured and done. He's a late day 2 to middle of day 3. Nussmeier is OK, but there is nothing about him that jumps off the page for me. I still like Klubnik, but he has been off this year and he needed to take another step forward. Both are day 2 guys IMO.
After that, its a bunch of developmental guys and career backups IMO. I didn't mention Manning because I think he is going back. He needs to go back. He needs reps. Sam Leavitt is intriguing, and he might actually work in a McVay offense nicely. His accuracy is iffy though. Carson Beck is a favorite of Alyo's but he is a round 2 or maybe 3 guy. He makes a mistake and then he can't seem to shake it off. Then it just snowballs on him. Sawyer Robertson has tools galore, but has never had good accuracy and his TD to INT ratio is not great. Taylen Green is a one man band at Arky, but he is super toolsy dual threat type. He is going to look pretty good in the pajama olympics.
In the end, I see three "franchise QB" prospects, one borderline prospect, and several who might be take a chance at the right price/try to catch lightning in a bottle types.
