I'm sure an unpopular take.. But I'm not sure a 37yo Stafford is better than Jimmy G right now. Yes, I want Stafford there at the end as he has the "it" factor, whereas Jimmy G is more like Goff, productive, but missing the "it" factor...
But Stafford showed his age last year. Was really slow out the gates every game. Going thru the motions for much of the season. The defensive line was carrying us. There was a point where we all questioned Stafford. But we forgot because we made a run at the end.
We are trying to squeeze 1 or 2 more good years out of him.
I'm not saying I want Jimmy G over Stafford, I'm saying Stafford can't win the SB without Puka. That is his and McVays Blankey and also, he is a beast.
I think Jimmy G COULD win the SB with Puka and Davante.
Jimmy G had more passing yards in one game after sitting the entire year than Stafford had in 18 games. He can run McVays system.
Again, I believe Puka is the key piece. Without him, neither QB can do much.
You don't want to see us try to win with Davante, Whittington and Tutu. It would not be pretty. And yes, we need Davante as well, because Puka, Whittington and Tutu is also not getting you to the SB.
But Puka is the key component, aka the MVP.
Some strong counterpoints Mr. kw13.Unpopular for sure. But for those that think Stafford was playing less than special ball last season (swag, take over games & dominate, week to week consistency etc.) was in the eye of the beholder when you review his 2024 season.
Was Stafford already showing a decline in 2023?
Maybe Stafford wasn't much better in 2023 than he was in 2024?
Stafford 2023 - Comp 236/521 - % 62.6 - YDS 3,565 - TD 24 - INT 11 - RTG 92.5 (sacked 30 times) (15 games played)
Stafford 2024 - Comp 340/517 - % 65.8 - YDS 2,351 - TD 20 - INT 08 - RTG 93.7 (sacked 28 times) (16 games played)2023 & 2024 were very similar seasons.
Only 2 key stats kind of stand out.
2023 (3,565) passing yards vs (2,351) in 2024. Big difference of 1,200 yards.
2024 (65.8) completion % vs (62.6) in 2023. A medium plus completion % difference of 3.2%.
Based on the last 2 seasons of his stats, Stafford is probably going to finish the season with something like these numbers ( if Puka, Adams, Stafford, Alaric Jackson & Hav's stay healthy.
2025 (3,925) passing yards - (66.1) completion % - 34 TDS - 12 INT (sacked 22 times) (15 games played)
