Are you suggesting that Atwell's lack of production over the last 4 years has something to do with his motivation? Cuz from where I sit the only reason he hasn't had a 1,000 yard season is because he's never been targeted more than 67 times in any given year.
He has produced whenever he's been called on and based on his numbers in those situations, if you target him 150 you'd get 1,200 yards out of him.
Now, do I expect the Rams to target him 150 times? Of course not: he's behind Nacua and Adams on this team. But I can't see knocking the guy for putting up WR3 numbers if his role is WR3.
Last year he gained 562 yards on 42 catches - the 3rd highest total on the team behind Nacua and Kupp.
The year before he got 483 yards on 39 catches - again, the 3rd highest total on the team behind the same 2 guys.
I just wonder what your expectations were for the guy considering Nacua and Kupp were ahead of him on the depth chart the last two seasons.
As a point of reference, the Bengals had the most passing yards in the league last year and their WR3 (Andrei Iosivas) had 479 yards on 36 catches.
The #2 passing offense was the Lions. Their WR3 (Tim Patrick) had 394 yards on 33 catches.
The #3 passing offense was the Bucs. Jalen McMillan was their WR3 with 461 yards on 37 catches.
I could keep going, but based on that limited research Atwell was the most prolific WR3 in the league.
And BTW, the Bengals, Lions, and Bucs completed 460, 399, and 408 passes respectively while the Rams completed 367: Atwell had more catches even though he was on a team that passed less.
