I felt bad that Saquon didn't get his chance. As you point out, the window for RB's to break that record is all but shut - he is an outlier. The game has changed and the likelihood of anoher 2,105 runnung season is fading like a burned down candle.
Saquon is a team player and by all accounts a trouble-free and good human being. I doubt that he'll whine as loudly as the press about his missing ED's record.
In any event, the record, if he had set it, would be compared to ED's accomplishments in ways that reinvigorated ED's reputation. Already there are clips and articles doing that - and given his ego and pride, ED must be pleased with that.
