Barkley is probably going to be a really unhappy guy. He's on record saying he wanted to play and wanted the shot.
Look at the records set in the 16 game season era which started in 1978. Have any of them stood for 40 or 41 seasons? I don't think any have lasted that long. Most have been broken multiple times since that year. In 1983 when Dickerson set the rookie record it's still standing today 41 seasons later. Then in 1984 set the all time single season mark that hasn't been broken in 40 seasons.
Those two records may be the longest standing record in American football history. Off the top of my head I can't think of any records in any sport other than possibly a couple of Gretzky's but I don't follow hockey so I might be off base there. Certainly Ruth's career HR record was a bit shy of 40 years. Maris's record of 61 was less than 40 years old when it was broken. Both of those were broken by cheating SOB's whom should be ashamed of holding those records IMO burt that is a different discussion.
So anyway. If I'm in range of Dickerson's record I want to take my shot. If I get the opportunity taken away then the ONLY thing that can POSSIBLY cancel that out is a SB win and a SB MVP trophy.
This is a singular honor that will likely stand until the NFL is playing 20 games a year. Maybe not even then based on how RB's are often splitting carries.
All that said EFF the Eagles I don't want them to win it all or even get there.
All apologies to you Saquon LOL.
I will admit that the Lions and Eagles (from my perspective) have been the big favorites in the NFC to make the SB over the second half of the season.
The Lions beating the Vikings didn't surprise me at all, because I thought the Vikings were do for a reality check.
The Eagles are every bit just as good as the Lions on paper. Both of these teams have been the 2 big dogs in the NFC.
The Rams can beat both of them imo but they can also can be one and done out if they don't play one of their best games of the year vs the Vikings.
Should the Rams get a victory, I doubt the Vikings get humbled by the Rams as bad a they were by the Lions.
The single elimination NFL playoff tournament takes no prisoners no matter what or why the outcome ends up the way it does.
