Didn't 'Spoon twist an ankle or some such during last season? And then his play nimmediately dropped off? I seem to recall something like that. Possible the Rams typically kept the minor injury hush-hush and let the player play through it - they did the same with Noteboom (when he could play) and Havs for the year when people were sdaying he had lost a step - was all washed up.
If so, ('Spoon hampered by nagging injury) I'd like to see him on the field. When he's right, he's a playmaker.
My sense with some others in the conversation:
Kendricks? Compelling as an athlete but doesn't seem to "get it" when awareness and quick decisions are mandatory on the field. Gotta haver that in a CB. If not there, athleticism doesn't matter.
Tomlinson? I had high hopes at first, but he's a penalty machine. Two parts to that: Coaching can take care of one, adapting techniques to NFL vs. college rules regarding contact; the other part is lodged in his helmet. Only he can learn to channel and control his aggression.
Don't know for sure, but at Packers game they moved him to boundary CB ... and what I remember is he was pretty good first-half of season.
or --- it could have had nothing to do with it. But he seemed to get beat in single coverage after that. Maybe being alone was a small issue. Again, maybe not. Would have to ask him. Maybe Jake can, they're friends.
As far as hiding injuries - teams not supposed to do that anymore, but with Stafford I think it's happened, there are coverups, teams hide.
But with Spoon, all I know is when he was limited in one early-week practice, but never missed another. Could he have had something? Sure, but that's life in the NFL, people play with pain all the time. But if it was anything significant they would have held him out of practice that week -- he'd be a "DNP" or "limited"
All players have stuff like that all I know is he was never on an injury report and played 94% of the snaps -- outside OL ... maybe Dotson and Avila ... he was among the healthiest players. He had a rib bruise one week and later had a groin issue but it never keep him out of practice -- that's all I know.
I share your hopes for THT. I never throw away hope for a player after just one season. With Kendricks --- we know what he is --- THT? We don't know. He could end up being a player ... I mean, I would say this: He's not a bust yet.
