I think that is the plan: get in the playoffs. So not a contender by any stretch. That's not realistic.
But imagine if they fix just the OL and the Secondary. Everything else stays the same. Is it going to be impossible for them to get a wildcard. Doesn't feel like that to me.
And is it realistic that they can fix both. Well let's say on the OL they get one good iOL like maybe a center in the draft. Let's say Bruss plays well in year two. Well RT is already solid, unspectacular but solid, at RT. So what happens at LG. Maybe Jackson holds it down. LT will be an issue that limits the offense most likely, by requiring TE help, but there is room for our OL to maybe be solid.
Would our offense be terrible given that? I don't feel that way. Maybe the QB starts pumping like he was in the playoffs behind a little protection and suddenly we have an attack people worry about.
Secondary will be tougher I think but it's not impossible. They have to find one safety in the draft or as a bargain FA, but we got Johnson in round 6 and this scouting group has shown they can draft a safety. Maybe they find a corner in the draft. Those two things mean we're a corner short still but you can field a respectable defense with that.
People acting like there is no way this roster can be anything other than bad but I think that's premature. They have a good chance to be right but idk I guess I'm just not the type to throw in towel. I try to envision how they might succeed rather than wallow. Either way that should be a conversation for prior to camp when we at least know what the roster looks like.
