The misdemeanor is not about the fame though there is no question that a wealthy or famous defendant gives the district attorney a lot of pause, and how they charge and file cases because they know the defendants going to fight back and potentially embarrass them.
BUT While it seems totally crazy CRAZY it's actually not that uncommon for a vehicle or manslaughter involving alcohol to be charged as a misdemeanor. I've taken two to trial in the last five years where literally people are dead, and the defendant is facing a maximum of one year in the county jail.
Of course that's California. I'm surprised it's that way in Georgia.
