What bothers me about our D is 'what seems to me', (could be wrong, stats may prove me wrong).... the time our D keeps our O off the field.
In 2022 it Rams was 29:39 on offense, 30:21 on defense, basically 50-50
However, since people are pointing out last year specifically---through the first
half of the season Rams offense was fifth-best---only 4 teams had ball
more than the rams offense--here is what I posted on this subject
on Oct 30
but to your point--and to be fair, yes, it got worse in last half, for them
down to 29:39 from wherever it was (there is not way to go
back and calulate it without a lot of work) it was not good.
But also to be fair--Rams offense had ball a lot the first half of the
season compared to other teams...so there is that fact as well
make of it what you will - I don't know for sure . . .would have to
look at teams like Miami and KC and others to see what effect
press coverage vs off has on time of possession
It has to have some effect but also the running game has to have
some factor, especially running the ball with a lead late in the game.
It's interrealted. Good teams with a lead can hold ball and get
an extra what? minute? 2-3 minutes in a game doing that in maybe
2-3-4? games a year . . . that is a stat with more entanglement
than some others.
Again, just trying to be fair and explain it how I understand it.
