No criticism of McVay intended here, just two diff. approaches to two very diff. situations.
I think McVay was either told or saw the writing on the wall—and, frankly, we all knew so—he needed to coach the Rams into Super Bowl LVI at Sofi no less.
McVay didn’t see Goff as a dependable cog towards that goal. Stafford became available, and McVay struck while the iron was hot.
A bit of pragmatism over friendship but the goal was reached in amazing fashion.
