Using an iPhone to post pics on The Original Herd (no replies)

If there's a pic on your phone that you want to include in a post but it won't post because the pic is too big, these instructions should help you.

How to reduce photo file size on iPhone

1. Find the photo you want to use in your photo library. Swipe up on the photo so you can see the file size. Tap on the Share Icon at lower left.

2. Swipe up and hit “Save to Files”. Browse folders (if you have any) and choose one if you want to save your file to one. If not, just hit “Save Here”.
3. Swipe to the right to reach you App Library and open the Files app. If you saved your image to a folder, open the folder.
4. Press and hold on the file you saved you will see Quick Actions near the bottom. Open Quick Actions and then hit Convert Image.
5. Select JPEG and then to reduce the file size, select small or medium. The original photo was 1.5 MB but these instructions reduced it to 67 KB
6. To attach the reduced pic on your iPhone to your post on The Original Herd:
.........6a. Compose a new message
.........6b. Select your iPhone pic by choosing Choose File, not Photo Library. Then select the pic from your Files app and then hit the blue ATTACH button.
.........6c. Post Message

How to attach a photo from the Internet to use in your post when using an iPhone

To attach a pic from the internet to your post, you first have to save it to your phone. I don't believe there's a way to do a copy/paste directly from the Internet to your post. Not when using an iPhone. You'll have to save it to your phone first.

1. Using the Google app on your phone, find the pic on the Internet that you want to use in your post
2. Touch the pic until a menu opens up (Share, Save to Photos, Copy, Copy Subject, Look Up)
3. Select Save to Photos then complete step 6 above.

If there are other ways to accomplish these tasks, please share. What I know is that these instructions worked for me!

If you're replying to an existing thread, hit Reply in the post first and then follow the three steps below.

When you're ready to add a pic to your message

See Attachments located above the Message box
Click on Attach a file... (Make sure your pic is in a valid pic format: gif, jpb, png, jpeg. It can't be larger than 614.4 KB)
Click on Choose File button (go to the folder and file on your pc where your pic is located. Click on the pic you want to attach and then OPEN. Choose a pic from your Photo Library if you're on an iPhone or take a photo to use)
Click on Attach button in your post

You will see a message in the light gray area above the Message box showing the pic is attached. If you change your mind and don't want to post the pic after you've already attached it, simply hit the Delete button). If there's a different pic you want to add, follow the same steps.

You can attach up to 6 files to a post.

Lengthy titles of posts (3 replies)

Is there a way to set a limit on the macimum number of characters used in the subject title of a post? Titles that take up 2 or 3 lines in a thread have become annoying and cumbersome. Half the time you don't need to read the post because the content is in the title. I know sometimes this can't be helped but sheesh.... it's become a habit with some posters. Can anything be dobe about this?

When I am logged into this site using my I Pad, I can't see some of the pictures other members post in their comments. All is see is a box outline with IMG_0293.jpg but no picture. If I click in the box where the picture would be, I get a msg with says, Permission denied: links to files in the forum are only allowed from the forum itself? When i use my I Mac, I can see the pictures fine. Any idea why the problem on I pad?

2021 Daylight Savings Time not working? (2 replies)

I just noticed that the time is off by an hour on The Herd forum. Daylight Savings time should have set time ahead by an hour on March 14 but I don't think it's working. My Control Center is set to Central Time. I just watched a new post by a different poster be posted a few minutes ago and the forum time showed 6:32 pm. However, the actual time on clocks in my house was 7:32 pm.

Could ya'll please verify that the time is working correctly on your server?

I am having an issue when on this site using my I Pad not seeing photos someone has attached to their thread. If I open a thread and someone has attached a photo, all I see is an outline of a box but no photo. When I log in using my Lenovo PC, I can see the photos. If I click the photo box using IPad, I get a message saying permission denied..links to files in the forum are only allowed from the forum itself? Must be an issue with Safari? Anyone else having this problem?

Ok I'm ju$t going to type a bunch of nonsense (if you know what I mean) so that I c@n see how special characters are handled from an iPhone on the new server. Hoping it will be > than before and not <. But if I have ?'s I know who to call!

I left off the weird E-looking special character and it worked!!!!!

A big thanks to Vickie for her quick testing!

She has confirmed the fix works by making the following change to your IOS settings -

Try turning OFF "Smart Punctuation" (introduced in iOS 11) in Settings > General > Keyboard

All of a sudden the pic in my signature isn't working. I haven't changed anything. Haven't touched it in months. Instead of my pic, I'm seeing the error message:

Image error
Running getimagesize() on the image data failed
open image URL

Any ideas what's causing this?

hello,...sorry, i'm new here and don't want to offend but is there any chance you change the format soon and make this as readable as other forums?
I'm sorry but its just a mess and hard to navigate and find and make posts etc.

so disregard anything I say in this post. . . . Antivirus. . . clean. . . bad jokes OK, never mind. I had something weird happen, but I think it was my computer.
And now it isn't doing it. . . what was happening was in a post I made in the Pub, key words were in red and underlined and set up for hyperlink. I didn't click on, because I didn't know where they would send me. . . but it's not happening now.
