Rashid shaheed vs Miles Garrett (4 replies)

I wonder if this would have been a better off-season acquisition? (Not saying he was available but a player like Rashid).

After acquiring the two cornerbacks, I don't think there was anything wrong with our defensive line. It was solid, in fact, a strength.

But WR3 and kick returner are weaknesses.

Also, I think this offense is lacking a burner and I don't see how adding another exact clone of every receiver we've ever had is the answer.

I'm not saying we're not better with Miles Garrett, but now if there's anything that stops us from getting to the super bowl, it will be our offensive depth.

And I also wonder if 13 personnel is going to keep working now that it is not a novelty? It's using a lot of slow players as receivers.

And looking at the list of free agents next year, signing Donald and Garrett probably hinders the future.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for this year either way. Just wonder if this is going to work out best both short and long-term.

Obviously if we win a super bowl, then it worked. Do we still have a 2-year window? I'm not sure.

Southern coach Marshall Faulk: NFL is no longer the “next level” for HBCU talent (no replies)

Nice to see Faulk in the public eye again. The dude was on of the smarted players we ever had and I think he's right on this subject. The NIL has changed everything.

Not sure how he will be as a HC but I remember wanting him to be part of the Rams staff for many years.

Southern coach Marshall Faulk: NFL is no longer the “next level” for HBCU talent
link

For decades, the best of the best players from HBCU schools found their next opportunities in the NFL. Times have changed, dramatically.

Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk, the new head coach at Southern University, recently explained the changed circumstances for HBCU players.

“I believe that the next level is no longer the NFL,” Faulk said recently during SWAC Football Media Day, via Steven J. Gaither of HBCU Gameday. “We get poached by the FBS. They want our players.”

That’s one of the basic realities of the new era of NIL and the transfer portal. Once it’s clear that players at HBCU programs can perform at a high level, high-level college programs will come calling.

“They have an opportunity to maybe go somewhere and make good money while they’re in college,” Faulk said. “The game has changed. The landscape of college football has changed.”

In past years, this would have meant Hall of Fame players like Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Aeneas Williams, Jackie Slater, Michael Strahan, Shannon Sharpe, Mel Blount, John Stallworth, and Deacon Jones landing quickly at major college programs — and making significant money. Now, the best players at HBCU programs will get opportunities to play, and to get paid, by some of the programs with real money to spend while further honing their skills before a chance to perform in the NFL.

Some thoughts on Rams WR3 this year by JonRam99…. (3 replies)

Here’s JonRam99…

I really like J.Whitt & Mumps (& even X.Smith), they have things that make them stand out. But CJ has what you can't teach: size.
And I'm not talking necessarily about height, weight, speed etc. but length and catch radius. The long striding I mentioned in the OP at 2:16 (or so)... he literally takes just under 3 strides to the other guys's 5 - 7 strides. Look how high his hips are. These small CB's are gonna look like they're running in sand next to him. And yes love the catch at 2:57 @gogoat1 -- an effortless, one-handed catch that's way outside his body. Now, it's not coming in hot like a Stafford pass, but I think this kid has the skills & raw ability to pass up some of the other WR3's. Remember, Puka wasn't on the roster very long until he was WR2 next to Kupp, then WR1. Not saying this kid is Puka or has any chance at WR2, but I'll be watching him in TC, because he's got potential.
Something else this kid has: hands. His U highlight vids are full of contested catches, and in the NFL you gotta come down w/ the ball, or else. It's something we see w/ Puka: if the ball is thrown at him, he's coming down with it, no matter what. I'm thinking we'll see some of that w/ CJ.
I'm not that familiar w/ the others on the depth chart (Edwards, Mario, Presley) but there's some reason they didn't rise past the guys I listed above over the last year or so. But CJ just seems so much more determined to prove himself--you could tell he was expecting to get taken a lot sooner in the draft. And here he is, posting a workout session, and wearing the horns to show that he's all in on being a Ram.
Maaan is it TC yet??? time is just creepin' along.

And while Los Angeles Rams fans have plenty to command their full attention, there are reasons to stay aware of other teams as well. One reason is to understand exactly what was behind door number two.

You see, on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft, Los Angeles packaged three picks to move up from the 201st overall pick to the 197th. General manager Les Snead did so to ensure the selection of Miami wide receiver CJ Daniels. But at what cost?

The Rams did not add a receiver until Round 6. Daniels, though, was worth the wait. He may lack top-end speed, but he has a deep bag of tricks as a route runner and the strong hands to ensure he comes down with the catch. LA has never been the team to shy away from receivers who aren't exactly Olympic sprinters.

Rd 6
CJ Daniels

Wide receiver | Miami
Was shedding three picks worth landing Daniels?

Daniels spent four seasons at Liberty before transferring to play one season at LSU and one at Miami. After an outstanding career for the Flames, he struggled to produce in the SEC with the Tigers. Fortunately, he found his niche in Miami's offense and proved he could, by Snead's analogy, play Frogger at a faster pace.

So late in the draft, Daniels may have been the last viable option for the Rams receiver room. But did LA pay too much trading three picks for one guy? You decide. Let's consider the prospects the Rams might have added.

Pick 201 | Green Bay Packers select cornerback Domani Jackson

Philadelphia ultimately traded away pick No. 201, which Green Bay used to draft Alabama cornerback Domani Jackson. Jackson is a 6-foot-1, 194-pound outside corner who looked better on paper than on the football field. Although blessed with great size and solid speed, he struggled to produce. If coached up, he could be a steal.

Pick 251 | Philadelphia Eagles select defensive tackle Uar Bernard

Uar Bernard hails from Nigeria and arrived in Philadelphia via the International Pathway Program. At 6-foot-4 and 306 pounds, the powerful Bernard is simply ultra raw, as he has yet to play a single game snap of organized football. For now, he is projected to feature on the defensive side of the football.

Almost certainly destined for the practice squad this year, Bernard is a prospect with little risk and high reward potential. He needs a heavy dose of coaching and patience to convert his promise into production.

Pick 252 | Philadelphia Eagles select edge rusher Keyshawn James-Newby

Keyshawn James-Newby is an edge rusher who made stops at Montana Tech, Idaho, and New Mexico,. He stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 240 pounds, which is a bit undersized for a guy trying to round the corner. But he has plenty of passion and a fearful initial burst.

He could find a path to Philly's roster via special teams. He'll need to hit the weight room to unlock his full NFL potential.

While Los Angeles could have addressed multiple positions with its three original picks, Daniels easily has the best chance of being a regular contributor this season versus the above trio of prospects.

Ultimately, fans must decide for themselves whether the cost to acquire Daniels was truly worth it. Unless the other rookies astound, however, Snead appears to have chosen wisely.

As always, thanks for reading.

Maybe better now with a bolstered DL and CB corps.

If Ventrone can get our ST just up to league average then Look Out!

Snead has put all the above together with only one 1st rounder, trades, FA signings, middle to late draft picks and a few UDFA’s.
What would AD's workload look like if he returned? (Some #s that might give a good hint) (7 replies)

In his final year, Aaron Donald played 867 defensive snaps (in 16 games), representing 76.5% of all defensive plays.

I think it's safe to say that, if he returned, he would not carry such a burden. Looking at last year's snap counts, the primary members of the defensive line rotation were the following four players:

Kobe Turner: 750 snaps (66.8%)
Braden Fiske: 542 snaps (48.3%)
Poona Ford: 508 snaps (45.3%)
Tyler Davis: 475 snaps (42.3%)

Additionally, you had Ty Hamilton (138, 12.3%), Larell Murchison (126, 11.3%) and Desjuan Johnson (101, 9.0%) contributing.

I'd say that the sweet spot for Donald might be Davis' workload. At his age and given his hiatus, that likely would not be so much that he'd be overtaxed, but it would be enough for him to make an impact, particularly given the fact that, with Myles Garrett on the field, he likely won't see the high rate of double and triple teams that he saw in his prime.

Davis could still compete to pick up some of the remaining snaps that went to Hamilton, Murchison and Johnson last year, and rookie Tim Keenan will hopefully contribute as a backup NT/short yardage specialist.

So... yes, there is a logical role for Donald that could be a very nice boost.

Now all he has to do is decide if that's what he wants.

But the show I was waiting for was:

"Cartoon Capers". Not sure if that was national or local? I HATED that my bus to school came by before Cartoon Capers ended so I had to miss the last 10 minutes or so.

I cannot remember the first 'adult' TV show I ever saw... but NO DOUBT it would have been one of the many westerns. Almost surely either The Roy Rogers show, or the Gene Autry Show, or the Lone Ranger. BTW.... I was an adult before I realized it was the LONE Ranger instead of the LONG Ranger. :laughing

Speaking of TV Westerns.... the hottest topic among my fellow classmates and I during those days was who was the fastest on the draw. :laughing. Fist fights could and did occur during those debates. :laughing. I'd like to say those 'fastest on the draw' debates were in 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade maybe.... but in truth they lasted into my High School years. :laughing

Hmm, the first non-western I remember? Probably I Love Lucy. but it could have been any one of dozens.

I do remember our first color TV and the first color TV show I saw... you're thinking it was "Bonanza", right? Nope, Bonanza was the 2nd. The 1st was "Hazel"... and I hated "Hazel", but it was in color. :laughing

I think it was "Mission Impossible" that finally broke my addiction to westerns. :laughing

Whitworth explains how L.A.'s revamped secondary — built around new corners Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson — solves the coverage issues that plagued the defense last year, and details how Sean McVay's staff will likely move Garrett around alongside Braden Fiske, Kobie Turner, and Byron Young up front. The two also dig into the Rams' looming contract crunch on the offensive line, with Whitworth predicting the team leans toward locking up interior players first to protect Matthew Stafford.

(0:01 - 3:45): Introductions and personal nicknames.
(4:14 - 6:45): Discussion on the Myles Garrett trade and potential Rams roster moves.
(7:16 - 10:20): Impact of the revamped secondary and defensive depth.
(10:21 - 14:00): Tactical fit for Myles Garrett in the Rams' defense and impact on NFC West opponents.
(14:05 - 16:32): Strategies for pairing Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett on the defensive front.
(16:41 - 22:01): Analysis of the Rams' offensive line contract situations.
(22:04 - 23:07): A brief, humorous touch on Taylor Swift's wedding.
(23:09 - 28:10): Recapping the American Century Championship golf tournament in Tahoe.
(28:31 - 33:14): Thoughts on LSU football, coaching changes, and the 2018 "No Call" memory.
(33:15 - 34:49): Wrap up and anticipation for the upcoming Thursday Night Football season.
