I sure hope it improves as the season goes on, because you can't win against top teams with competence in only 2 phases of the game. New coach - same poor results which would point to a personnel problem. Might be worth to try rotating some practice squad guys in on game days. The Rams did not have an issue playing without star receiver Puka Nacua on Monday night, defeating the Giants, 28-6.

But the team would surely like to have Nacua healthy sooner rather than later, particularly as Los Angeles will face Denver on Sunday night in Week 3.

Head coach Sean McVay said on Tuesday that he was unsure of Nacua’s potential availability for the coming weekend as he deals with the psoas issue.

“I’m hopeful that he’ll play,” McVay said, via Gary Klein of the L.A. Times. “If he’s ready to go, great. If not, then we’ll continue to roll.”

Nacua missed practice on Friday and Saturday after the injury popped up during the week. He was listed as questionable for Monday night and was inactive for the contest.

“You have to redirect your whole kind of plans, and you almost have to operate where it’s like, ‘All right, if [Nacua] plays it’s a bonus, but we can’t count on him playing even though we were hopeful that there might be a chance,” McVay said. “It really just boiled down to ... when you have soft tissue injuries with guys like that, that are skill players, you’re going to err on the side of caution.”

Nacua caught five passes for 74 yards in the Rams’ season-opening loss to the 49ers.

I will also note the resolve and focus of a team that got embarrassed, then lost the #1 and #7 players in the NFL.


The Great

1) Davante playing like he's 25. You want acrobatics? You want speed? You want crazy catches? Dude.

2) McDuffie. I was hoping this is what we'd get. I can't wait to see him battle JSN.

3) AD return. 32 plays is fine when you impact every play you're in.

4) Run defense. I have Skattebo in fantasy and he was NOT happy.


The Good

5) Ferguson (would have been great, but ... ) mainly the focus on targeting him. Some will mention drops, but ... I don't think he is at Stafford* game speed yet. His head wasn't turned fast enough. The ball caught Davante off guard more than once but he has freak hands. Kid needs 6 targets a game.

6) Meaningful snaps for Mumpfield and Tutu.

7) Corum and Kyren keeping the run threat alive. Like Corum bouncing outside now ...

8) Lake and Curl tackling and limiting plays.

9) Wes Bailey getting game reps. He's still a little lost but his physicality is noteworthy.

10) O line seems to be fine. 1 sack in two games and solid run lanes this game.


The Bad

11) Kyren's fumble on our 5 did not amuse me.

12) The Mevis miss has to be noted, but I am in no way worried, he just pulled it.


Honestly in a game like this there isn't much bad. I'm glad Dart isn't badly hurt, same with Nabers ...


College

13) This coming weekend has a slate of great games. I have mainly watched bigger schools/closer games. I am not sure what we need at pick 64 so I'm just skimming right now.

14) The QB class is going to be a thing. Moore didn't have a great start IMO. Arch caught his stride against a tough Ohio State defense. Sayin looked calm and like a sniper. haven't seen Carr, have Mestemaker cued up ... Maiava I don't need to watch I had him the #2 coming out last year. Mensah I haven;t seen yet but he's making Heisman type noise I hear. The next tier I has to shake out.

15) The WRs might be moving around ... Got a good look at the biggest riser, Reed Harris on AZst ... coached by Hines Ward ... Omarion Miller on AZst might be had later, but Harris is likely a top 15 player ... Isaiah Horton on A and M looked borderline 1st round ... Cam Coleman looks okay, and Ryan Williams ... but they could lose ground. Marsh is still top 10-15 IMO.

16) CB class looks deep and high end.

17) RB class looks interesting, lots of every type. Jaden Baugh right now is the freak there.

BUT..... I was wrong. :laughing. Everything about this morning is rosy bliss and cotton candy clouds. I mean.... I FEEL GOOD! :laughing

My main takeaway from last nights game was the great play nearly across the board. Lets not talk about ST's. :banghead. I don't know if AD's presence inspired that but I'm thinking YES, it did!

For all the hype this kid got the last 2 years, I have been unimpressed. Maybe the hype was just that...hype. Too many dropped balls for my liking. The TE is supposed to be reliable as an outlet/check down and sometimes the primary in the new McVay 13.

Ferguson needs to get his crap together. We need him to be better than he's played if we want to keep running 13 like we do.

Was this a case of Shula doing this on his own or did McVay have a talk with him?

Whatever the reason, that defense played fast, aggressive and creative. One of Shula's best called games imo.

I think having an aggressive defense is just what you need with the McVay offense.
