Have we ever discussed desserts? Yes, this interminable wait for the game tonight is getting to me. I do not eat dessert very often. Very rarely in fact. AND YET... I love desserts. I can't make a list of my favorite 'in order' because one day it's one dessert and the next another. BUT... in general... MOST likely to tempt me in order: (bad choice of word, these ALL tempt me and if I see them I'm eating them). 1. Ice Cream. Put simply - proof that there is a heaven. 2. Pastry - ANY pastry although some better than others. Topping the list - Maple Bars 3. Banana Pudding. Vanilla pudding, Bananas, Vanilla Wafers.... Just a second I have to make a request of my wife. 4. Flan - I don't even know what it is. And I don't care.. doesn't matter. 5. Pumpkin Pie.... tied with Pecan Pie.... I never eat one or the other... always a slice of each. So I'll leave my list there so others can add. But I'll end with this: Least favorite desserts... 1. Cupcakes. It's not that I dislike them but I will most likely pass them up when offered. 2. Rick Krispie Treats - did I spell Krispie right? The thought of never again in my lifetime taking a bite doesn't bother me in the least. 3. Marshmallows - related to #2. I only eat them because it's fun to burn them over a campfire. 4. Smores - again related. Very very close to a "dislike". 5. About 90% of all wrapped candy you get in the store. Those I do like, however, I LOVE. Something I got addicted to in Mexico on dive trips, was an old Mayan pudding recipe called Maja Blanca.. They make it with and without corn.. I much prefer without corn..

I've tried to make it before.. Once with disastrous results, once actually pretty good.. The version I got in Mexico was NOT similar to the recipes I found, so had to improvise.. The primary ingredient is rice, but it was SO creamy, I couldn't figure it out.. I tried a coffee bean grinder on the uncooked rice.. It made a dust and I thought I had cracked the code... Until I cooked it and it was a lumpy mess..

So, I cooked the rice and blended it forever trying to make a puree.. It worked much better than the coffee bean grinder, but still not even close.. Pretty sure I posted about this a long time back. My Dad, Mom, Wife and I were in Reno at a Fats Domino concert..... dinner theater... our table was right up against the stage. Fats was incredible, by the way, one of my favorite concerts of all time. Anyway.....

You didn't really order.... or rather you did but only two choices. It was excellent and after dinner they brought dessert. Now this was when I was mid-20's I'm guessing. Dessert was: Vanilla Ice Cream (but like home made, extremely creamy and beyond delicious), with.... Cognac poured over the top!

I had never heard of a such a thing... I don't think my Dad and Mom had heard of it either. HARD LIQUOR on top of ice cream? The very idea was disgusting to me. I would have passed it up BUT.... I am more curious than a cat... I HAD to know. My Dad, Mom, and Wife watched as i dared a spoonful... they were FAR too scared to try it.

It was like a choir of angels started singing! It was THAT phenomenally good. I didn't think of it when I posted this and made my list but it may be my #1 choice. Obviously I can't know for sure but I would guess that if any of you tried it, (if you haven't already), you'll like it. VERY different than you'd expect.

Ok... so another. This one my daughter got in San Francisco.... fell in love with it... bought the ingredients and came home and made it so we could try it. Again, an angel choir started singing. It is ice cream, (we used chocolate but any flavor will do), with Bergamot Olive Oil on top... just a little. Bergamot has been discontinued, by the way. And probably because... in my entire family ONLY my daughter and I loved it. Everyone else either didn't care for it OR hated it. So I guess it wasn't a hit with the public.... My Dad absolutely LOVED those. I think it was the only candy he really ever ate. And he'd eat them whenever he came across them Christmas time or not.

My mom makes a Boston Creme Fudge (white) that when she does it right is great but with age she only gets it right about every other year, but I still tell her it's great.

Something one of my Aunts made great was divinity, I didn't like anyone's but hers.

7-Up Cake recipe

Ingredients

2 sticks margarine or butter
1/2 cup Crisco (not the oil)
5 eggs
3 cups sugar
3 cups flour
7 oz. 7-up
1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)

Directions
1. Keep eggs and margarine at room temperature for 4 hours.
2. Heat oven to 325 degrees.
3. Grease and lightly flour a Bundt cake pan.
2. Beat margarine/butter, Crisco and sugar together.
3. Add eggs, 1 at a time and beat until fluffy.
4. Add flour alternately with 7-Up.
5. Bake about 1 hour and 15-25 minutes.
6. When done, take out of oven and let the cake cool in the bundt pan for 10 minutes.
7. Then invert the bundt pan on a cake plate. It will still be hot!
8. You may need to tap the bundt pan a few times with the handle of a knife.

None of those would be my favorites, but if someone’s offering, I wouldn’t say no.

I tend to think of my favorite desserts in terms of where they come from, because I’m actually a picky dessert eater. Definitely not a picky eater in general, though lol.

Ok, so only the first two and last are very specific, but the others I listed I will try at most places, restaurants or otherwise.

I actually enjoy most fruit pies, and I probably could’ve added pastries because they’re usually what I’ll order if I go to a bakery.

Don’t care for a lot of cakes because I don’t care for icing (very particular). I like pecans but I just don't care much for pecan pie. I'll take a fruit pie in a heart beat but will usually pass on the pecan pie.
Maybe it's the nuts getting stuck in my teeth that I find unpleasant. I dislike NONE of these. I've had them all and will again.... BUT... other than Key Lime Pie and Carrot Cake (which are great)... only if nothing else is available.
