I'm sure he's probably trying to beat the salary cap

I don't think it's official yet , but I think a 20.5 million cap will be in affect in June , I think

I'm not exactly sure how it will work though

but it's not even just the kids , it's the coaches as well , when the Iowa Hawkeyes were looking for a new basketball coach this year , how much Iowa was committed in spending NIL money for their basketball program was a big part of that

other schools looking for head coaches will have to answer that question from here on out now as well

but college sports isn't done changing yet

with that NCAA vs Florida State / Clemson law suit settled , ACC schools will be free to leave by 2030, even sooner at a higher cost , starting now , they can leave the ACC at a higher cost , but each year the price goes down till 2030

so the ACC , by 2030 , Florida State , Clemson , North Carolina , Virginia and Miami will probably all have left the ACC for the SEC and Big Ten , then a few other schools will probablt bolt for the Big 12

and then the ACC will find them in the same situation as the current Pac !2 , having to backfill with smaller colleges

5 years from now ' we'll basically just has 3 Power conferences

and I believe Notre Dame , will then be force to join the Big Ten , once those top schools leave the ACC , Notre Dame scheduling agreement with the ACC will no longer exist , making it about impossible for Notre Dame to schedule enough top schools to play

college football is still evolving

This mess has killed TEAMS. Nothing but a bunch of individuals looking for the cash . The spirit of the game and COMPETING is why so many people have preferred NCAA ball over Pro for so many years. Well?? Overnight, NCAA ball became worse than the NFL.

I'd tell the Prima Donna kids to go kick sand. Want some money?? Go get a freaking part time job like every other kid who has actually busted their a$$ to get an EDUCATION. I keep hearing...."These athletes bring $$$ to the Schools. What about the kids whose folks are dishing out MORTGAGES worth of money into the Schools??? Where does it stop??? I'm hearing NIL has wormed down to the High School level?? At what point do these brats EARN their way to the top?? Bad enough we see 30something NFL Players whining about "fair pay" when their signing bonuses alone are more than many will see in a life. Like before, I expect someone to bring up Capitalism. Let's not confuse that with flat out entitlement and greed. And right now, this Sh** Show is being played out with ZERO rules or limits.

I don't think we're in Kansas anymore, Toto...

i don't think what this has become is what the courts originally intended. I understood the original idea to be that the NCAA could not PREVENT players from profiting from their OWN name, image, or likeness. And that's a reasonable argument. If the schools can profit from them, why can't the player profit from what is actually HIS (or hers)?

But it is coming down to schools paying, or guaranteeing income to players to play. Originally, I don't think the schools were supposed to be involved. They just weren't supposed to have exclusive use of the players "property".

I don't know what the answer is, but it's all messed up right now. For one thing, I don't think letting players jump schools almost anytime they want is sustainable.

Believe me, I get that....

But it doesn't change my mind. Which is: confused about it all.

Ok, a tangent.... there comes a time when all you've said, me too, comes into play. i'm not involved in any of that. I AM involved in all the levels previous to that.... and it's 'glorious'. Allow me to bring up, once again, my Grandson's HS Freshman Valley Championship.... I honestly don't think a SB Ring today comes close to what that Valley Championship meant to a Freshman in High School. And it doesn't end there, by any means. It continues into the JC level... another grandson.. AND into DII Football... another grandson. THAT is what you and I would both like to see as reason and priority for sports. But that's unrealistic. And just to be clear - It also continues into D1, (no grandson), and I think for a short time with a some NFL draftees.... and yes, some vet NFL players... Kupp as a perfect example. How do you keep that, foster that? I don't have a clue. - JamesJM

I call BS on paying NCAA Players. Schools also make $$$$$$$ on a kid who wants an Education.

University Of Florida is a 100% BIT** for egghead kids to get into. I have zero sympathy for Players who want more than a Scholarship. The so called big bucks they bring in pay for the VERY lavish facilities they have for practices, fitness training and dorms. They are fed like Kings. When they started this NIL crap, I thought it was gonna be a few hundred dollars per game. We now have College kids who have never played a down at the NCAA level making more than some NFL Players????

Here we are , a few years into this Circus and the NCAA STILL does not have a set standard. These are the same HYPOCRITS who gave SMU the death penalty for "illegal activity"???

How do you feel about that?

It's a quandary for me. I am of two minds: First.... schools make a fortune off those players... why shouldn't the players receive due, (tough calculation), compensation for their contribution?

But secondly: Money corrupts everything. Perhaps not totally but definitely to a large extent. Seems to me: The NFL suffers the same malady but it's more manageable because there are relatively few teams involved. But in college? Seems to me the level of corruption could be exponentially worse.

Basically... I don't know. :laughing
