Guido thinks he's a cat....

He was raised with 3 cats. The cats hate him. Hate, Hate, Hate. Guido doesn't give a rats ass and is always pushing his luck. Guido loses every fight with any of the 3 cats BUT.... he seems to like losing. He loves to agitate them until they mentally break and go after him with 'death' on their minds.

Here Guido is about to get whacked upside the whiskers by Chowder... the cat that hates him the most. You'll notice that Guido is standing on the back of a sofa. He pretty much lives up there. Sleeps up there. Never falls off. Raised with 3 cats I'm convinced he now thinks he's a cat. The aftermath of this photo is:

He got whacked then proceeded to hit warp speed around the house losing control several times and slamming into 2 chairs, 3 or 4 walls, a recliner, and me. And oh yeah, it's grooming time.

Actually that wasn't my name for him..

Hatfield was the name the shelter, that saved his life, gave to him.. Like Gypsie, they both had been through horrific injuries and abuse, requiring multiple surgeries before I adopted them.. I really didn't like the name Gypsie.. Hatfield is was ok with, although I've always said a Beagle name should end with a y or an ie, like Snoopy, Torrie, Lucie, Gypsie and Mauie.. But, i figured they had been through enough so I kept their shelter names so they wouldn't hafta go through learning another new name..

Speaking of Mauie, her shelter named her "Hyacinth" which I just couldn't live with.. i accidentally came across her first shelter's name (she was transferred to a Beagle shelter after being attacked by coyotes and fending them off), which was Maui.. I just added the e and named her Mauie..

I tend to put little nicknames with their names.. Gypsie is teeny tiny, so I nicknamed her "Gypsie Juice Box" because she's the size of a juice box, and Mauie is "Mauie Moose" although her first nickname was "Mauie McCoy" - like Hatfield and McCoy.. I decided that was dark due to the fuel so stayed with Mauie Moose.. Hatfield is just append something that rhymes with Moose every time I say his name, like "Hatty Hoose.. I also call him Goober a lot because he IS a goober lol

If bored, you can read Gypsie's and Hatfield's stories here.. I'm posting links to their initial stories, although their are follow ups you can click on, as well.. I changed Gypsy's spelling to Gypsie:

One of my Beagles, Hatfield, is the same way..

Although no cats in my house - that I know of.. Well, he did root one out hiding in a bush, on a walk, and Hatfield walked the rest of the way home bleeding.. that was the day he met Hannibal, the black assassin, somewhat psychotic black cat of the neighborhood..

Hatfield thinks he's one of the Flying Wallendas.. but keep in mind several of them passed away from the effects of gravity.. he loves to balance on things that should be impossible for a big dope like him to balance on.. when I went to adopt him from a shelter in South Carolina, I asked them to send me some pics of him.. one of the pics they sent was of Hatfield on one of those wire frame octagon shaped pens.. about 2 feet high, just a thicker wire on the top and bottom for rigidity.. Yes, Hatfield was balancing on top of the pen.. all 4 paws on the top wire, which was about a quarter inch diameter.. I will admit his front paws were on one side of the octagon and his back paws were on the wire directly after the bend to another direction, but still: no way he should have been able to do that..

Torrie, one of my Beagles before Hatfield was similar.. she was 6 weeks old and couldn't get on the couch, so at 6 weeks old I built her a little "stairway" with odds and ends, to get on the couch without my help.. she took that idea much further, tho, and before long she'd be stranded on top of kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets and, one time, even an ironing board.. i knew when I heard her arming in another room i was gonna get a kick out of where she had climbed up to and was stranded and needed help getting down.. I couldn't help but laugh every time I'd find her.. the ironing board was special, tho.. 15 inch Beagle, 4 feet high on an ironing board that SHOULD have tipped over when she jumped on it lol

I don't what what's covered under those policies and how much they pay on the Vet bills, etc. Not even sure what the premiums are either. My guess is that after 14 years of Vet bills it all comes out the same when you consider 14 years of premiums plus deductibles, etc.

Good luck on your call on this.

Yeah.. he took to water instantly. Came out of the canal that first time with a look on his face admonishing us - "What's wrong with you people? Didn't you know this is where I belong?".

We've been holding off on the grooming knowing that he would need another very soon. Got him all caught up at the Vet yesterday so after grooming he'll be set for a while. Which reminds me -

Do you carry Vet Insurance, or whatever that's called? Pet Insurance? We have it and it 'seems' worthwhile... just not sure. I think it's one of those things that only pays off if something very bad comes up. - JamesJM

Don't let the groomer (you or the professional) shave his feathers-the strands below his underside. But yes he does need a good haircut with summer approaching given where he lives.

Gorgeous dog. I bet he loves to swim in one of your lakes ? If ever near the beach he likely will love the waves too.
