Local HS Football news that may go national... Two close-by High School's, (one of them we're playing in two weeks), had a major fight during their game last night. Coaches were hit by players. One player pulled the helmet off a player then hit the player with the helmet, in the head. Social Media, around here, has been exploding since. Going to be interesting to see what is done.... it may go beyond just player suspensions - - maybe an entire team, or two? Or.... who knows, maybe nothing at all? One of the teams involved has a team coming in from Alaska to play them this Friday. Yikes! However...

From what I can tell, which could very well be wrong - I'm only going by the videos I've seen and there are no doubt many I have not seen - plus the fact that I don't know what started it..... but the team hosting the team from Alaska doesn't appear to have been the instigator in the fight. Again, I could be wrong but I haven't seen anything from them like I have from the other team who definitely did start some action.

One thing for sure - no matter the decision from CIF (the ruling body), somebody is not going to be happy.

So thought I'd toss in my two cents, for what it's worth. Fighting, (we'll all agree), has to be discouraged and discouraged firmly. At minimum the players who actually fought should have to sit out X? number games... I heard it's supposed to be 3 games automatically but I can't verify that. From what I saw many players DID take the field but relatively few actually fought. So I don't think a 'team' suspension warranted. I could be wrong about that.... like to hear what you think. Most players AND coaches did take the field but coaches... from what I saw in video and I'm hearing ONLY tried to break-up the fights... none of the coaches were participants in the fight although at least one coach was attacked. Only time I've ever been close to something like that was in 1990 at a Seattle Thunderbirds game. I was setting just out of frame to the right of this video.

The article below has absolutely nothing to do with football. But when you said "something that evil would never have crossed our minds", I thought of this story which shows that even younger kids than those high school players can be sinister and evil What's worse.... the punishment amounted to not much more than a slap on the wrist.

Two children have admitted to luring an 8-year-old boy to water-filled pits in Georgia and drowning him - as outraged attorneys argue the crime was racially motivated.

Noah Bush, 8, was murdered in May when he went with the boys to a restricted zone in Wayne County filled with borrow pits - massive holes dug up so the dirt can be used to fill in at another location.


An 11-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, admitted in court on Wednesday that he played a role in the homicide and was sentenced to two years in a detention facility, reported WSB-TV.

'This 11-year-old admitted under oath he, in fact, led Noah Bush down to the clay pits, pushed him into the water and ultimately held his head under the water until he drowned,' Bush family attorney Francys Johnson said.

In July, an unnamed 10-year-old boy was sentenced to two years of confinement on charges of concealing the death of another and criminal trespassing in Bush's case.

'My baby was 8 years old with a full life ahead of him,' said Demetrice Bush, Noah's mother. 'And two years is what the state of Georgia calls justice for an entire life that's lost.'

'There is no peace, there is no comfort, there is no closure for me. I will live with this for the rest of my life.'

Georgia law states that a juvenile can receive a maximum of two years in jail.

Bush went missing on May 15 and his body was found a day later in the borrow pits, reported WJCL.

Police initially said there was no foul play suspected and the 8-year-old took off his shoes, wandered around the 'no trespassing' area and stepped into deeper waters where he drowned.

However, the family hired the Davis Bozeman Johnson Law group to investigate the second grader's death and the two children were charged in July.

The Bush family lawyers have vowed to continue to seek justice and believe the crime was racially motivated.


'There are people who feel that way. They fly flags in their yards, post signs, they get on Facebook. They do this in front of their children as if their children are not just soaking this up. This is the consequence when you don't stand against hate,' said Johnson.

The 11-year-old's mother, Natalie Hardison reportedly attended Wednesday's sentencing virtually because she is in jail.

She was arrested in July on a felony charge of giving false statements during the investigation into Noah's death, according to WJCL.

'This is not the end,' said Mawuli Mel Davis, the founding partner of the Davis Bozeman Johnson Law Group.

'The adults who were involved, who helped mislead this family, must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law as well.'

Identity vs role confusion ....and boom

Coached youth all star soccer for years up to U20.....had many players fight or get into it. I never promoted that and would get blamed as a coach for sometimes poor behavior, but it is built in to male teens....I had a girls coach chew me out once when one of my players exhibited poor behavior on the field

I told him coaching girls and boys completely different....throw in a difficult home life for this poor kid and there are all sorts of variables at play
