Olympics... geez, hate to start with a criticism.... but it's not a 'major' criticism. I think the athletes coming in on boats is cool.... very nice views of Paris in the background. I just don't like it as much as the athletes marching in to the stadium. Actually, I like it a LOT less than the athletes marching in. But that's just me. :laughing I am HOPING, and it could happen, the boats are transporting the athletes to the stadium for a grand entrance.... and if they do, and NBC shows it, I'll reply to this post and say, "I was wrong. The Rose Bowl has ask to be removed from the College Football Playoff rotation

with college football going to a 12 team playoff system , bowl games would rotate , championship games , etc.

but the Rose Bowl wants to be let out of that rotation , because the dates of those games would change , with the Championship game being played as late Jan 9th

The Rose Bowl wants to remain , a New Years Day only game

But in the end the Olympics are about sportsmanship and fair competition.... the athletes are the stars. And in that vein:

Kenya is quite amazing in training long distance runners. Kipghoge will be going for his 3rd Gold Medal in the Marathon. That's 12 years of being tops in your event....16 if you consider the training leading up to his first gold medal. 16 years best in an event that's made for 'youth'. That is an astounding.

Early reports are that Simone Biles is on her game. Frank and I felt the same way. Plus it frickin' rained the whole time! I didn't realize it's only in the 60's there so it may have been even more miserable than it looked. The boats were kinda cool because it was the first time it had ever been done but there was also something missing because it WAS done that way. Given a choice,,.... I'd take the traditional entrance where the athletes walk in together with their country's team... Overall, I found the opening ceremony a bit underwhelming in comparison to others I've seen. There's been a lot of dead space during the ceremony, too. Feels like a lot of "hurry up and wait" to me. I didn't like that. Did you sense that, too? Maybe it's just me. oh, and another thing... all the secrecy around the cauldron.. and the talk about where is it? Who's going to light it? And the ridiculous number of hands the light had to pass through to get to the end. It was a bit much.
