I believe I read somewhere that the #1 wish for kids is either a Fireman or a Policeman, (for boys that is, not sure about girls). I forget which. So it seems Ramgator of us here on the Pub did the best at sticking to his guns? Although... I think it possible that sstrams may have begun with 'musician'? Musician also enteried my mind but not until later in life... I think when "the Beach Boys" hit the music scene. When I first starting cheering our Rams I really didn't have any friends that followed the NFL. They were all into baseball. So I'm not sure which position kids my age fantasized most about playing but I have to think it was RB. RB's were KING back then, (close to that now as well :laughing ). And it wasn't only Jim Brown.. although he was certainly the King.

I think I am an entrepreneur at heart but its hard to have a family and take risks... So I dabble with little business ideas and products but never really do anything with them. then , I wanted to be like a comic book , cartoon artis , the reason I got into comics in the first , had nothing to do with the super heroes , it was the art work that drew me to comics

then I wanted to be in advertising , like Darrin Stevens from Bewitched , have a office in my house with thick green shag carpet , wood paneling on the walls , and a full stocked mini bar , and all I had to do was draw , ad campaigns on my adjustable desk

Think I was a bit different than you. As a kid and thinking of an occupation, (although I never thought of it as an "occupation"), I felt that I would do exactly that. At the time it wasn't a dream to me, or a wish, it was fact.

Defining 'adult' as post High School I was like Mama... I wanted to be an actor. In fact - that was my major in college - "Dramatic Arts". Being drafted put a dampener on that... then my Dad's poor health and his need for help on the farm decided for me. No regrets. Your question: "So what did you want to be when you grew up?" Now that can mean two different and opposite times that a person thinks about what he wants to be. A common interpretation would be 1) as a youngster what did you want to be AFTER you became an adult. 2)A literal interpretation could be AFTER you grew up what did you want to be. It's called ambiguity. My reaction and disability is always to initially accept the least common interpretation. For me its useful since I really had no idea or desires about an occupation until AFTER I grew up and was in a university. Going to college was just an easy and immature way to avoid being responsible for a little while longer. I suppose one can then argue I had then "not yet" grown up and therefore it's no different than the common interpretation (# 1)

Sort of connected.... I was an avid follower of the NASA program.... starting when they took on the Sputnik challenge. I watched every single liftoff until some time into the Space Shuttle program.

I never saw a launch "live", however - of a 'manned' space flight that is. I saw many others because a ranch we used to have was very near Vandenberg.

I had NOT given her my name so needless to say this shocked me. The operator giggled when I expressed my shock about her knowing my name then explained... it was a lady I had gone to school with from kindergarten thru high school.
