The first 2-3 were pledged to facebook users who posted the correct answer, but everyone thought, "this guy is full of crap - he'll never sen them".. and one by one he DID send them - people posting pics holding the guitars he shipped.. He posted the pic of the Ibanez that I posted here and the question was, "who's signature guitar is this?".. and he included a blurry photo of the guitarist signature, which was on the back jack plate..

I had NO idea, but immediately fired up google and started looking.. I found the guitarist and posted his name - BUT - in the article his name was NOT correct.. his real name was Matt Bachand and I posted something like Matt Backmond, or something.. and he replied I was right and won the guitar.. So I kept digging and realized the mistake and changed my post to the correct name.. the guitar showed up 4-5 days later.. He paid $50 to ship it to me, in a brand new case he bought to ship it in.. the guitar is FLAWLESS.. no scratches - looks BRAND NEW in every way.. So, I haven't played it..

I've looked up the value by finding similar guitars for sale on ebay and reverb etc.. most are in the $1500 -2500 range, which I think is outrageous for THAT guitar, but seems to be the going rate because they are rare.. I will definitely sell that guitar, but, at some point, I need to check the serial number against a stolen guitar database, just in case.. but, I don't think he would pay $50 shipping and another $100 for a case to ship a stolen guitar..

He disappeared off facebook a couple of weeks after that.. Haven't seen him since - that was 5 years ago, at least.. He DID leave a return address on the shipping box, which I still have.. I told him if he EVER wanted it back, I'd send it to him..

Wow, I started to say no one has EVER given me a guitar... then I remembered the story I posted just above. :lol Also, my brother bought a new Taylor a couple of years ago and gave me his old Yamaha acoustic... he bought it when he was stationed in Okinawa Japan in the 70's. His purchase of that guitar influence my purchase of my first guitar and kind of got me started. I gave it to my nephews son about a year ago, but it wasn't a bad guitar for the $200 he paid for it way back then.

My guitar teacher has a Martin D-28 that one of his students gave him. It was used, but still... This was sent to me by a guy I've never met on facebook.. guitarist who jacked his hand up and can't play anymore.. spent $60 shipping it to me FREE.. never met him and he disappeared.. I'm afraid to look up the serial number on a stolen guitar site.. But, I did screen capture his post where he gave it to me..

Newest addition and LOVE it.. Special edition Gibson V.. Might not be able to see it, but has my shark/cross logo etched in the large truss rod cover.. Most of my guitars have that logo etched in the truss rod covers, but this V's cover is MUCH larger, so it shows more easily..

I have a habit that I can NOT break.... and I'm curious if any other person, most likely a musician, does what I'm about to explain.

When I'm driving down the road I am constantly counting out 4 beats that I MUST make perfectly even between power poles. 4 beats between each passed power pole.... all the way down the road for as many power poles as I pass.

Not to brag but over the years I've gotten so good at it that I've upped the challenge..... 4 beats, in perfect meter, before I pass that car coming toward me in the opposite lane. :laughing

Now I have to admit that this is not necessarily a 'pleasant' behavior.... I'm obsessive about it. I can NOT stop doing it UNLESS - I'm listening to music as I drive.... that is the ONLY way I can refrain from counting out meter while driving..... but EVEN THEN it bugs me if the music is not in time with the passing power poles and I have been known to accelerate, or slow, to keep the passing power poles in rhythm.

My only story to add to the Vai/Macchio thing was the red guitar Vai used in the movie disappeared and a journalist went out on a quest to find it - and did.. Also, a couple of Vai's custom guitars from the DLR days were stolen and the main one was found in an attic in Mexico, I believe.. in mint condition..

So it's still there Monday, and it is beautiful. It's a spruce top (I've always really wanted Koa top), but the Koa on the back is gorgeous, it just shimmers in the light.

But I pass on it, and when I get home I tell my wife I really like it, but I didn't buy it. Just couldn't justify it and don't need it.

Christmas morning, my son-in-law comes in carrying it through the door. My wife had called the music store two minutes after I told her I had seen it, asked if she could mail him a check because I had liked it, and they all had conspired to keep it a secret for about a month. The following week I even asked if it was still there, I guess the other guy took it.... and the owner just said it's gone.

Biggest surprise of my life. I dropped a little post with a few pics on Instagram, or I can post some pics here but you'd have to post pics of yours.... ;)
