Or, they intend to hit on their pick but do not count on a rookie coming through in 2021. Then they would have a youngster behind Jackson being groomed for the same role.

By signing Jackson looks to me like they're saying they need a deep threat guy. They surely don't believe Jackson is a long term solution. So like I said my guess is they are signing a guy they can use now, and then drafting someone they can groom for the future.

No doubt about that. I've said for two years that this offense is absolutely predicated on having the horses to take the top off of the defense. Between Goff's poor deep stuff and nobody who scared the D, the Rams were way too easy to defend.

I suggested Jackson as a FA target in here a few weeks ago. He should be on a one-year vet minimum, is a great presence for the WR corps, has solid hands and can still run like the wind. One problem area addressed for the immediate future, grab another burner in the draft and you have given Stafford's big arm the long ball threat we needed.

So he wasn't calling deep throws because he didn't have a deep ball guy. That's what I take from this. Essentially he said that he had WR's that can create big plays but he lacked a deep ball guy.

Signing Jackson doesn't do much for me. At 34 and coming off two years where he only played 8 games total I would hope there is not a lot guaranteed in the deal. Let him to come to camp and compete for a spot. Fine. And maybe they could manage his pitch count in camp and during the season and he really could contribute. It looks like the Eagles were still trying to play him 35+ snaps per game the past two years so maybe limiting him to 15/game could keep him healthier. But I'd really hope they still draft a similar deep threat WR next month.
