He gets the ball into the holder's hands with the laces within a quarter-turn of straight up on the times I've been able to observe - small sample, but what I've seen is consistent within that sample. That's something, too.

The long snapper is doing the two most essential parts of his job right.

Blocking? Not sure what's happening there or how to improve on it. The long snapper is the most vulnerable target on the O line when he's on the field. How to fix?

That, and many other questions, go to the coaching staff.

I say coaching staff instead of singling out the ST coach remembering the Mad Mike vs. Bobby April years. April was one of the best ST coaches in football. But his teams didn't play well when he coached under Mike Martz. Martz threw him under the bus publicly - and April's players made the same plea to Martz that April was making: He didn't have enough practice time with his players to accomplish much of anything. Martz didn't budge - and fired April. ST performance didn't improve before Martz hit the trail out of town.

When the laces are on the right side of the ball the rotation causes the ball to curve right. That's what happened on that missed FG. Karty didn't "miss."

Ward got the ball to Evans with the laces within a 1/4 turn of being straight. That's his job. Evans' job is to spin the ball slightly to get the laces straight while spotting it.

But the blocking up front has been embarrassing lately and there is possibly a problem with some of the holds by Evans. Neither should take long to fix. Problem is, McVay likes Blackburn very much. He tried to get him initially back in 2018, but Blackburn decided to stay in Carolina. Some issues with blocking and the speed at which Karty kicks the ball remain issues. I miss John Fassel very much and I sure wish McVay would bury the hatchet and bring him back, but unlikely.

Presently I would look at doing two things, bringing in a deep snapper that is bigger and blocks better on the interior then Ward and a kicker to challenge Karty. Maybe that could help, but as good as McVay has been with assistant coaches, after Fassel, his special team coaches have been checkered at best. After Fassel, there has been John Bonamego, who is now in college and he lasted one year. The new rule, and Karty's pooch kick ability, changed everything.
