Av's QB Prospect Power Rankings (Version 1.0)

I'm going to give my initial rankings now, and update it every few weeks. I am taking into consideration the opening games of the various prospects, but a lot of the thought process for this list is based on my preseason views.

So, here's my current ranking:

1. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina
If we're looking for a Matthew Stafford type QB, Sellers isn't our guy. If we want a Josh Allen type, that's what I see in Sellers. I think Snead and McVay are ready, and perhaps eager, to explore what the Rams' offense would look like with a true dual-threat QB. Sellers had a nice start against VaTech.

2. Drew Allar, Penn State
Allar is more of the prototypical passer. He has great size and arm talent and will enter the NFL with a ton of experience. Looking forward to seeing how he performs against some tough opponents this year.

3. Arch Manning, Texas
This is a deferral ranking, meaning that I don't personally see Manning as a top prospect yet, but I'm deferring to those who do. That will only last so long, however, if the on field performance does not improve. Certainly, he looks the part from a size perspective.

4. Cade Klubnik, Clemson
I'm weary of successful college QBs who don't look like NFL QBs. While there are certainly exceptions, smaller QBs often struggle. Still, Klubnik is a good athlete and has a strong body of work, so I'm still interested in seeing how he progresses this year.

5. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU
Nussmeier shares the size issues that concern me with Klubnik, and he lacks the same overall athleticism. He'll have plenty of opportunities to convince me he's a franchise QB playing against top competition. I'll be watching!

The next bunch: Fernando Mendoza, Indiana; Sam Leavitt, Arizona State; Carson Beck, Miami

Conclusion: I'm excited about Sellers and Allar at this point as possible first round targets. The rest need to show me more.

His first big-time start in a super-tough environment. Mechanics and accuracy both looked bad. Big-time TD throw. Hard to say how he'll look a year or two or three from now, but he looks nowhere near close to NFL ready. I'd be shocked if he went pro after only one season as a starter.

Klubnik was meh, overall unimpressive.

Nussmeier was by far the best of the 3 QB's I watched. Nice touch on the short and intermediate throws. A gamer with moxie. Concerned that he is on the shorter side at 6'1" and he doesn't have a cannon either. But he looks to be a solid NFL QB.

Overall: we as Rams fans have been spoiled by having the #1 overall QB the last 7 or 8 years. Stafford for sure of course, but Goff had a ton of natural talent as well.
