Re: OK. But I'll ask again, How many successful 155 lb. guys in the NFL?

Thanks for the post and willingness to engage in a meaningful discussion. I agree that we have not yet seen McVay and other Coaches install a package set for Atwell. And the reason for not incorporating it remains a mystery. When he started early last year, he did get a decent amount of plays and connected on some. There weren't that many go routes or jet sweeps, etc.

You seem to be splitting hairs regarding Tutu's size comparatively in the NFL. Like I said, he's on the lower edge. Maybe he is at the very bottom. I'd say that is more a compliment to Tutu than a slam.

I've mentioned before why I post on Tutu. Most of it is to battle the false narratives on this board. Haters gonna hate, but I will do my best to stick up for him. Posters have been wrong on him a lot including this year. To their dismay, he is still on the team, and, god-forbid that Atwell helps the Rams be successful this year. I'm glad you continue to pull for him, but it is easy to see that there is a board contingent that is absolutely not pulling for him. And IMHO that is just sad.

Quote
PSJRam
Here's the deal... Your opinion and my opinion on Tutu doesnt matter. It's what Coach McVay's opinion is that does matter.
So far McVay has tried Tutu at a few places on the field. Apparanently McVay thinks there are better players at those same positions or Tutu would be on the field playing one of them. McVay is either unable or unwilling to come up with a special package of plays specifically for Tutu. Or if he has a package, he's been unwilling to showcase it to this point which keeps Tutu off the field. McVay has added additonal players to the WR room annually which has kept Tutu off of the field.
I can't help but say that Tutu is not on the "lower edge of NFL players in size", he almost certainly is at the very bottom.
Not sure why you've latched on to this kid to where you feel like it's a duty for you to defend all things "Tutu"? Everyone is entitled to think what they want, including you. For me, I've pulled for the kid since the day they way over-drafted him. I think pretty much everyone on this board wanted to see him succeed and provide positive impact on the field. After all, we are Rams fans.

Ok. I apologize for the snarkiness, but I get upset for the guy because Rams fans are constantly casting shade on him.

He made the 53 and was not traded which had probably upset a few around here. He may have a future in kick returns and he may not.

I understand that he is small and is certainly on the lower edge of NFL players in size (his official weight is listed at 165 lbs). That is one of the reasons I back him because he is an underdog and he gets minimal support from the fan base.

I wish people would give him a chance to prove himself instead of making declaration that he a lemon or whatever.

Anyway, Go Rams!

Here's the deal... He's performed well on many of his chances. He now gets another chance at kick returning. I was just saying, let's give him a chance to see what he can do with new opportunities.
The games I watched/saw parts of.....

during the pre season I saw 2 guys in the backend to receive the kickoff....so when they say they are considering Blake in the return scheme that's sounds like 1/2 of the duo that's going to be back there. Now it's possible they go with 1 guy back and an additional blocker, but I never saw a set up of 1 guy back in the KR game, for any team....

I also think at this time of the season there is a lot of fluidity in the players and their roles.....especially in this new kicking format, I have heard Sean say several times it's a work in progress, for a lot of teams, including the RAMS.

The quick hits on Tutu are kinda funny, it's like..."Geez, the guy dropped a ball, he's gotta go"...."Did you see the socks he chose?...He's gotta go"......"he can't break the starting lineup (with Puka Kupp,Robinson)...He's gotta go"......LOL.....it almost looks like he lives in some of you guys heads......He's gonna make some plays this year...he always does, he's not chewing up a big % of cap space......is he going to help us more in 2024 as a role, spot player, or will that rd. 6/7 pick help us in 2024?

McVay said earlier Kyren Williams will return punts."

Trying to read between the lines here ... when Jourdan is talking about Corum, Whitt, and Tutu returning kinks is she lumping kickoffs and punts together? Or is she saying these three guys are in the mix for returning kickoffs only?

Not trying to be a Richard Cranium, btw - just looking for clarification on what might (or might not) be something of significance.

And what prompted my question ... therams.com has a depth chart that shows Williams as the punt returner and Corum and Whitt as the kickoff returners. [www.therams.com] Maybe all Jourdan is saying is that Tutu is in the mix for kickoffs?

Here's a snap from the site I mentioned:

I get you are a Tutu fan. Great. But, to me he's always been a bad bet more due to size than anything else. Fast. Good hands. Not particularly elusive.
So, rather than to get snarky, just answer the question: Objectively, how many successful 155 lb. players in today's NFL? If the answer is none (which I think it is), then to place a bet on someone being a mini-unicorn is not the best decision. Is he an OK football player? Sure. But, he is nothing special and that makes him pretty limited and replaceable.

That said, McVay clearly sees value and I have to respect that. As of today, my guess as to his value is that he is experienced and doesn't make route running mistakes, and so his presence as a 4th or 5th WR gives time for the younger guys to develop and/or prove themselves.
