You think he's gonna raise a stink now that one more guy has moved ahead of him? Like that's the straw that broke the camel's back? "I can handle being 10th, but I draw the line at being 11th." Personally, I doubt it.

Stafford apparently does want more guaranteed money in his deal, though. So guarantee his salary for '25 and '26. And just for show, add 2 years to his deal: $110M (not guaranteed) for 2027 & 2028.

4 years from now $55M will be a deal for a top QB. And if Stafford is no longer a top QB by then the Rams can cut him, trade him, or talk him into retiring and it won't cost them a dime.

And I know it's a technicality, but McVay doesn't sign players - Tony Pastoors does.

From [www.therams.com] : "As the club's chief negotiator, Pastoors is responsible for the team's salary cap management, contract negotiations, compliance with the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement as well as the club's financial and strategic planning."

And yes, I know that Pastoors wouldn't extend a player without McVay's recommendation. But that's the sequence: McVay recommends it, Pastoors negotiates the deal.

In Detroit they seem to e happy featuring what Goff does well. McVay could have done that, too, but he chose to get a QB who could not only operate the 'new' offense, but who could keep up as the offense continued to evolve.

The specific changes I think McVay installed after Belichick administered that lesson in the SB: sight adjustments on routes and timing passes that require anticipation rather that reaction on the QBs part. I don't know where to look it up, but I'd bet good money that the Rams run more of both than Detroit.
