Re: you're a good poster

I don't always agree with you but I really do appreciate how you lay out your argument or opinion

I like Stafford a lot too but he is falling apart before our very eyes IMO... in 21 it was the elbow and to your point, this tough SOB still won us the SB with that bulky thing. In 2022 it was the recovery from the elbow procedure and then the back which was a very serious injury

This year it was the hip and thumb... the same thumb injury he had in Detroit in 2020

McVay doesn't help him much... has him throwing too much and generally has put too much on him. McVay is way too casual about his run game and doesn't have a reliable go-to explosive player on this offense at RB or WR. Williams is a nice player but even when McVay had him he didn't seem interested in using him. In the game he did he ran him into the turf

They gave Higbee an extension... has Higbee played up to that extension this season?

IMO McVay is an issue... secondly the Rams need a QB because there is no way Stafford will play another 5 years. The Rams should be looking for his replacement for sure.... if he is able to go another 1 or 2 years great but its time IMO

And I absolutely love Stafford... his arm talent and football IQ are another level... but his production is way down and he has the be the difference between beating a banged-up Cincy and Pitts and he wasn't... and his ints didn't help

Just looking at the Rams schedule I wouldn't favor the Rams in any of those games and that's with Stafford.

Good post Rock. Agree with most of that.

Quote
RockRam
I'm still not sure I want to see the Rams take a QB in earlier than from the 3rd round on.

But...if they did.... I think they ought to consider Bo Nix in the 2nd round if he's still there.

I wouldn't mind seeing an LT pick in round 1, Nix in round 2, and then whatever they think best going forward.

A good Oline can elevate the QB and RBs. We have 3/5th of a good oline right now. I think we need to get a LT and LG, move Avila to Center, keep Dotson, and with steady Havs we'll instantly have a solid oline.

The one player that I might change my mind on in round 1, if he's there, is that TE from Georgia. That dude is a game changer and someone the D has to game plan around the same way Kelsey makes the offense go for the Chiefs.

Let's also not forget FA. The Rams are going to be able to spend some money and they like to go with superstar skill players. With a full draft of mid to high picks in each round and a bunch of FA money, they're going to be a very different team in 2024...which is the plan.

As for LT, I prefer getting a good FA or trade. Someone with some experience and potential. I know that's not easy to do but surely someone is out there. It's just up to out scouts to figure out who that is.

I am not sure we have time to wait for a rookie LT to learn or develop let alone pick the the right one in the 1rst round of the Draft.

All I know is that our OL and DL need to be upgraded big time if we want to contend again. :beercan

Protecting Stafford should priority one

Quote
Old Goat
Ya, Rock, even a gimpy Stafford is better than half the guys I saw throwing the ball yesterday. It's frustrating to see him go from throwing that laser to Puca for the TD, to that wiffle ball chucked to Hendo. The deal was supposed to be that we'd protect him, and he'd come back strong this season. Well, the Rams failed pretty badly at protecting Stafford, and he's taken an absolute beating this year. I don't know how people expect a rookie QB to fare any better running for their life every down like Matt has had to. Until that is better addressed, we're going to get uneven play no matter who is under center.

Nice post OG. :thumbsup

If we want to keep Stafford as our QB1 and there is no doubt in my mind that McVay loves Stafford, we need to keep him healthy first and foremost.

I think McVay has a bigger "man crush" on Stafford than he did the Wolf! lol

Just listen to McVay talk about Stafford. The post game speech is a good example. McVay just "gushed" over Stafford when giving him the ball.

I also think there is a slim to none chance we could replace Stafford's talent right away and I think McVay knows that too, so PRIORITY ONE should be building up that OL to keep Stafford healthy as possible for at least a few more years.

We could also call less empty backfield plays too! That might help Stafford stay healthy as well.

Stafford is who he is. He is streaky but can be bad to excellent to HOF levels all in the same game. lol

IMO, we need to keep Stafford healthy if we want to be serious contenders again in the next 3 years so let's build up that OL through the draft AND Free Agency or trade. Do whatever it takes to make that OL a strength.

It's been the offense that has held the team back this year. IMO, the defense, although not great, has kept us in most games. The offense...not so much. :beercan

Stafford is, and has always been, such a warrior that NEVER would he admit than an injury was effecting his game. He never offers excuses for anything he does good or bad. He could be missing two fingers on his throwing hand and swear it had nothing to do with not passing the ball as well.

I can't even imagine what it must be like as a pro QB to try to throw a ball with a damaged thumb. It's not just gripping the ball, it has so much to do with steering the ball. The techniques required to throw a football with velocity and accuracy are so finely tuned that when the body mechanics change, it of course affects the throw to one degree or another.

Stafford just doesn't often miss those throws. Give the guy a break. Dude leads another 4th quarter comeback that makes him like the 5th or 6th leading QB in the history of the NFL to lead 4th quarter comebacks.

I love Stafford and hope he remains the Rams QB for another 5 years. He has the heart of a lion. The likelihood of drafting a guy who can measure up to him is darn small.
