Was last year an accurate reflection of team or an outlier?

I would bring up the 49'ers for comparison and what they went through when Jimmy G was lost for a couple of years.

In 2018 he played three games and they went 4-12. In 2019 he played 16 games, they went 13-3 and lost in the superbowl
In 2019 he only played 6 games and they went 6-10
In 2021 he played 15 games and they went 10-7 and lost in the conference championship.

So...were they a bad team in 2018 and 2020 or where they unable to overcome significant injuries.

The 49'ers, like the Rams have a very good head coach, and GM and a stable, supportive front office that's focused on winning.

I'm not ready to write off 2023. Fight to the finish.

It's just way beyond normal. It's
not fan-like in my opinion.

Fans can certainly criticize the oline and say it's not
good enough. I agree, I've said Rams should have
invested more premium picks in the o=line for the
same reason everyone else knows, Pro Bowlers
come from the top 2 rounds so if you don't have a 1st
then use the 2nd on a guard or center or tackle.

But that is a far cry from saying street free agents
are as good as the Rams offensive line or that the
loss of Whit cost 7 games. Please.

Sometimes it does get tiring of hearing Rams fans
rip on someone like a 49er fan would do. If something
goes too far, too long, too intense, or too vicious then
it's not being a Rams fan, it's being something else.

Now, they are not even close to the case here. This is just
one example of a take that is, in my opinion, too extreme,
and maybe born out of frustration--and I get that.

The oldnotdeads of the world? Nah, beyond all sense
of fairness. You start calling a coach names for 2 years
then you deserved to be exposed as a hater. That is what
oldnotdead is.

I hope we get to see the kid play a bunch in preseason. He will need all the reps he can get IMO. The same goes for the other guys too. Say what you want about me, it's fine.

But when someone craps on a coach for 2 years, that is not reason. It's hate
in my opinion. It's pathetic, cult-like really.

But that is not you, but that is why I use
hate for them. A coach lives in their head rent-free and they cannot help
themselves to rip him with falsehoods when the truth is available, then
it's hate.

"Hate on" is just slang, but if you take offense, that is your right.
And "hate on" is common verbiage, being "mad at football" is another
one. It's your right.

And I 100% stand by my comments on the line. You talk about good guys,
guys on your team getting rag-dolled all next year.

You can simply join the people who say bad things about their
own team, dump on them when you don't even know who will be
on the roster.

You can be part of the Rams "fans" who say Rams and not only suck
but get rag dolled and the defense toilet paper and Snead is a moron and
that not only 2023 is going to be bad but 2024 and beyond because
we have all the crappy people running the team and mostly crappy
players on the team.

You do that. I won't.

You may hate me, hate my style, that's okay.
Lots of stuff went wrong

There sure was a lot of stuff that contributed to the disaster of last season.

Injuries, Superbowl hangover, QB elbow then Injury, Coaching decisions, McVay problems, Roster Talent

I think there were a bunch of things that happened last season that were just out of control of the organization such as huge amount of injuries, especially the decimation of the offensive line, and the short off season that really hurt the team.

But there were things that they could control that when you look back were warts all over the place. The coaching staff wasn't up to snuff, especially RB coach and OC. But the coaching staff as a whole wasn't performing well and McVay did a house cleaning as a result.

Depth was an issue everywhere which hurt us with player development. Roster configuration was an issue as we had lots talent at MILB but were thin on the edge. We had talent that we didn't play until things were so bad we didn't have a choice. Guys like Hoecht and Tutu didn't play even when we had a screaming need for their talents. Our offense just sucked. Stafford seem to be focused on Kupp exclusively, we lacked creativity, we were predictable, we had no running game etc. Yes injuries played a part but we did not adjust very well either.

On Defense we were generally okay but we lacked a pass rush and we had inexperienced CB's that cost us and yes a fair share of injuries too.

Also the Salary Cap probably caught up with us a bit too. The lack of draft picks caught up with us too. Those were things that were in our control and while those decision led to a Super Bowl they also contributed to a poor showing in 2022.

Some of the things like the coaching we have tried to fix. We have more draft picks but our Cap situation is even worse and we have lots of talent that must be replace.
one thing I thought a lot about...

... is how would the season have gone under more "normal" or typical health conditions. Let's say Stafford played 15+ games and they still had some OL go down- Edwards, Allen, Noteboom, etc. all missing chunks of the season but not all three backups and not some of the backups' backups, etc.

My best guess is they'd have gone 8-9 or maybe 9-8. I think losses to Tampa and Arizona don't happen, for example, if they were even somewhat healthier.

Anyway, my point is the 2022 Rams were going to be a noticeable step back from the 2021 team. They just were. We all saw it in week 1 vs. BUF. A play I remember in that game was a no-look pass Stafford tried. Very similar to the game winning drive no-look to Kupp in the Super Bowl that he threaded. But this time it was tipped and intercepted. And I thought, "yep, those magical plays are magic for a reason. They don't happen most of the time..."

The OL injuries were unprecedented. Totally. And their health as a team was 2nd worst in the league. I just had a hard time being really that bothered by it because (a) they had been SO healthy for the previous 5 seasons and (b) they'd just won the Super Bowl...

I don't know where I'm really going with this frankly. Other than perhaps the wholesale changes we are seeing now maybe would not be happening if they'd gone 8-9 or 9-8. And maybe (?) in the long run they are better off that 2022 was as bad as it was? For McVay to figure himself out? For the team to make the moves they have to get 'clean' for lack of a better term for 2024?

Anyway.....
