Am I the only Ram Fan on the board not worried about next season? McVay is still the YOUNGEST HC in the NFL. Les Snead has pulled off some amazing trades as the Rams GM. Kroenke has the deepest pockets of all the owners, even when he has to ask his wife for a few more $100's :) . Now.....OLINE injuries killed us last year.....But, the boy's will be ready to rock n' roll once we get to Rams Camp in the summer. New coaches with some new blood on the staff.....Damn, I'm totally excited about the guys McVay brought on board because being in L.A. is "NEW" to them. Being with McVay, the Rams and SoCal these guys must think they have died and gone to heaven. They will bring a whole bunch of ideas along with a lot of excitement to the players. The Vet's get tired of the same ol' stories....New coaches, new stories and ways to et the players giving 100% EFFORT! Indeed. You just never know what a new season in the NFL holds.

Case in point, NOBODY gave Seattle a punchers chance in '22, and look what happened, they had a playoff game.

spotrac has the rams at 39m of cap space in '24, once you back out bobby wagner who is still on their list.

here's the problems with that '24 cap space :
1. that does not include anything for the 2024 draft class ~ take out maybe, what, 8, 9, 10m ? back down to 30m.
2. the big problem ~ that 30M covers 25 active player plus 7 draft picks, or a roster of 32. we need 19 more towards the top 51 or an average of about 1.5M per roster spot to fill
3. of the 19 open spots against the top 51 against the cap, snead-mcvay could get 1 FA at a '24 cap hit of 13M or 2 FAs at a cap hit of 7M each IF, big if, all the other open spots are filled at vet minimum. Not really getting a lot of fire power at those amounts.
4. on the '24 roster under contract, once you get past stafford, donald, kupp, haverstien, robinson, allen and maybe earnest jones, there's not a lot of proven talent on that roster. and i know some here will argue with my list of proven talent on the roster, and maybe rightly so. this years draft picks are a swing item though.....
5. everything above excludes this years draft class impact in '24. cuts both ways ~ reduces the 19 open roster spots in '24 but also reduces the available cap space in '24.

as coy bacon posted, i'm ok with a crappy 2023. 2022 was an anomaly cap stoned by the rams setting the nfl record for the most o line injuries in a season. i enjoyed 5 years of my rams being a significant contender culminating in another ring. what else is there in the nfl.

i would prefer improvement in 2024 but i'm ok i it's not much. 2025 needs to be a step function improvement for me though. even though it will surely need to be without stafford and our mount rushmore aaron donald. maybe even kupp. who knows.

am i concerned/upset/pissed off that we would have to endure a freak '22 when we had a legit chance on paper to get back to the big dance, followed by a a couple of years of gathering?

Now, 7 years later, he's still THE YOUNGEST HC in the NFL, has been for the entire 7 YEARS!!!

Rams and Dodgers both apparently are resetting their cap situation for a brighter future starting next season. Both franchises on a similar path, winning it all a couple years ago and now retooling or rebuilding, whatever you wanna call it.

Both Roberts and McVay will have to prove what they can do with less talent than in the years before. Especially Roberts.

I try to just keep the long view. I've followed this team for 45 seasons (1978-2022). And in those years they have been to the playoffs 18 times, won 9 division titles, been to 5 Super Bowls and won 2.

And finally- finally- they need to decelerate for a year to regroup and level set again.

Like Jourdan has said, do we really expect they'll be some 3-14 team? After going 5-12 while having the 2nd most injuries in the league and most EVER for an OL? I don't. Now is their ceiling probably 10 wins? Yeah. And 8-9 or 9-8 are probably most likely.

But again a lot of the moves they have made so far (emphasis on so far) are with an eye on having quite a bit of cap space in 2024 while also having another 11 draft picks (and finally a 1st round pick again).

There will, I'm sure, be a lot of hand wringing about a lack of Rams' FA signings these next several days- maybe next couple weeks. But they don't have the money to spend and the way they have approached FA for the most part is to sign mid-priced veterans released elsewhere (in accordance with their compensatory picks strategy).

A lot of holes to fill- QB2, another RB, a WR, a TE (or two?), two OL, a DL, two Edge rushers, an ILB, two CB, a S, and K/P.

A lot of work to do. That's why they were more deliberate about upgrading the coaching staff. Why the medical and training staff is getting guys healthy again. And why they're working on their draft strategy. The holes will get filled. Not with splash names. But filled regardless. One way or the other.

And come week 1 they will also still have a top-10 QB, one of the top-5 WR in the league, an all-time great DL, and a lot of other talent around them. An imperfect team. Very likely not a Super Bowl contender. My ceiling for this upcoming season will be lower than this past year, but I tend to look long term. We won the SB 2 years after losing to the Pats. The only other team whom has done this recently, I thunk, were the Manning lead Broncos. This is a hard feat to pull off! Having said this, I have confidence the current Rams FO can take us back in the next couple of years.
