I would think that shorter legs would provide a more stable base, making an RB harder to tackle.

OTOH,longer legs would allow WRs and RBs to hurdle tackles, or to cover more yardage per stride.

The Los Angeles Rams didn’t take the approach to this year’s NFL Draft that many were expecting. After a narrow loss in the NFC Championship Game, a joyous return for an 18th NFL season for Matthew Stafford and an all-in push in free agency, they went to the draft to fill out their depth and plan for the future.

That started with the selection of Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson at No. 13 and continued with a class of just five players, the smallest general manager Les Snead has ever had. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t fill some important spots, as the Rams needed to add depth and lock in some cost-controlled deals while balancing re-signing a handful of key players entering contract years.

With offseason practices starting soon, this is a good time to take an updated look at the depth chart.


Quarterback
Starter: Matthew Stafford
Top backup: Ty Simpson
Depth: Stetson Bennett

Simpson was the Rams’ big splash in this draft, but he will arrive to a competition with Bennett to replace Jimmy Garoppolo as Stafford’s backup. The Rams were prepared to take Simpson even if Garoppolo returned, a team source told The Athletic, so this will be an opportunity to let him compete and earn something early; the starting role is blocked until Stafford retires. It doesn’t completely shut the door on a Garoppolo return, but that’s considered unlikely at this point.

The time on the bench could be beneficial to Simpson, who started just 15 games at Alabama. He stood out to the Rams, particularly in their secret pre-draft meetings, as someone as excited to learn as he is to play after becoming the rare college quarterback to sit before his chance to start one season at Alabama.

He’ll enter a lab of learning behind Stafford and from coach Sean McVay, offensive coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase, quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone and assistant head coach Kliff Kingsbury, a former NFL quarterback who helped develop Kyler Murray and Jayden Daniels as rookies. The giant question of when Simpson will see the field remains a mystery, but the Rams are confident that the longer he sits, the better he will be when that chance arrives.

I want to beat that record.

I want to see Matthew Stafford win another Super Bowl (or two), cementing his status as a first ballot Hall of Famer.

After he retires, and in (far) less than five years, I want to see the Rams win another Super Bowl with Ty Simpson at QB.

A lofty goal, no doubt, but I think that is EXACTLY what Les Snead and Sean McVay are aspiring to accomplish. They want an unprecedented continuity of success beyond Stafford's retirement date.

I'm totally up for that!

Ex-Bills WR Stefon Diggs Facing Major Update in Legal Case

Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs will soon be heading to court over charges that he assaulted a former personal chef.

Diggs was accused of assaulting the woman in a dispute over pay last year, leading to strangulation charges. He went to court just days after the New England Patriots lost the Super Bowl, and now will be headed back soon to face trial.

Stefon Diggs Heads to Court Next Week
As WJAR reported, Diggs will head to court in Massachusetts on Monday for the start of his criminal trial.

“Jury selection in the strangulation case of former New England Patriots player Stefon Diggs is expected to start next week,” the report noted, adding, “Electronic court records indicate a trial readiness hearing is scheduled for Friday, with the trial set to begin at 9 a.m. Monday.”


The alleged assault took place days after the Patriots defeated the New York Giants last season, court documents show, leading to a charge of felony strangulation. Diggs has pleaded not guilty, with his legal team saying he will be exonerated at trial.

The Patriots released a statement at the time saying it would investigate, noting the denial from Diggs.

“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs,” the team shared. “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”


Diggs was released by the Patriots in a cap-saving move in the weeks after the Super Bowl, and the former All-Pro receiver has yet to find a new NFL team.

Stefon Diggs Faces Uncertain Future
While Diggs has lingered on the open market through the first two months of free agency, he could find a home soon. CBS Sports reporter Zachary Pereles suggested this week that Diggs could be a good fit for the Las Vegas Raiders, giving rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza a trusted target.

“Diggs showed last year he can still really play, even if his snap share was way down,” Pereles wrote. “A talented separator who snatches the ball with hands like glue, Diggs would really help a Raiders wide receiver group bereft of his skill set and bereft of experience. The youngsters could play a lot, but Diggs could still see plenty of work on crucial downs.”


Diggs has been connected to some other teams, though he has also faced the uncertainty of the pending trial and potential punishment from the NFL. The league has wide latitude to issue suspensions to players accused of assault or other crimes, even if the charges do not result in a conviction.

Loved what they saw on film fromTy...sees a QB with the traits they look for and someone they think can be a starter for them eventually when ever Stafford wants to hang up the cleats
