The Los Angeles Rams are about to reconvene for training camp. While they always seems to have nagging questions and concerns to address, the stakes this summer are higher. As recently as a year ago, the Rams seemed content to improve gradually.

With the promise of 10 draft picks in 2026, they appeared to have enough ammunition to power success for years to come.

But general manager Les Snead felt the team was close enough to cash in future draft assets for present-day playmakers. While the moves certainly upgraded the roster in the eyes of even the harshest critics, pivoting to go all-in on 2026 opens the door for many questions. Such as:

1. Is LA's roster deep enough for 17-game season?

Los Angeles welcomes back nearly every starter from 2025, plus some significant upgrades. But there will be a clear drop in talent if injuries impact the lineup. The question is, how severe will that drop-off be? How much resilience does this team have?

The Rams' past two drafts have been more about adding depth than acquiring immediate-impact players. They have multiple former starters on the bench. Unless injuries hammer the same position, depth should be surprisingly adequate.

2. Will the Rams extend any more players before Week 1?

It's impossible to envision Snead abandoning efforts to lock in key players with new extensions. While as many as 10 names deserve priority, LA's GM may be content to extend several playmakers now and hold off on the rest awaiting the results of this season.

Contracts will not distract players, but money may evaporate quickly as some of the larger deals become reality.

3. Is this the year all three phases peak simultaneously?

LA's offense certainly did its part in 2025, and it may be even better this year. Defensively, the sky's the limit for a group that has added three elite defenders to an already top 10 unit, whose main problem last season was the secondary.


Special teams remains a question mark, but the Rams addressed even those concerns the right way. Rather than make wholesale changes, they infused veteran leadership around the edges. Sometimes, the best steps to take are little ones.

The greatest challenge will be getting all three phases to peak simultaneously, and at the right time. After all, 17 regular-season games are just the appetizer. The playoffs are the main course. If LA is firing on all cylinders in the postseason, this team could hoist another Lombardi Trophy.

There will be many positional battles, integration issues, and roster holes to track throughout training camp. But these three questions cover the most pressing tasks facing the team this season. As the pads go on, the Rams will need to ascertain the answers rather quickly.

The Los Angeles Rams supplemented this year's five-player draft class with a host of undrafted free-agent signings afterward. The reality, of course, is that few of those prospects even have a shot at cracking the 53-man roster. There are several, though, and if an undrafted rookie is going to make the team, linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green remains the Rams' best bet.

In large part that is because linebacker remains a weak spot on the roster. Nate Landman is a solid to above-average starter, but Omar Speights will have to fight to keep his spot alongside him. Hill-Green could give him a run for his money.

The other part is that he excels where Speights struggles - in pass coverage. After a resilient college career that began at Michigan and ended at Alabama, Hill-Green is here to make some noise at Rams training camp.

Rams fans should keep tabs on Hill-Green this summer

Hill-Green fought back from injury and demotion at Michigan to claim a starting role at Charlotte, then Colorado, and finally clawed his way back into a premium Power program with the Crimson Tide. He finished second in college football last season with a 55 percent completion rate allowed.

There are, of course, other undrafted candidates to make the cut, led by cornerback Al'Zillion Hamilton. But because of Hill-Green's specific skill set and position, he remains the frontrunner.

The Rams will welcome competition in the off-ball linebacker rotation. Even if Speights holds onto his job, they could use some depth. Hill-Green and special-teams weapon Shaun Dolac will be the leading contestants to seize depth-chart priority.

Hill-Green has a realistic shot to claim a starting spot, if not by Week 1 then at some point during the season. As an undrafted rookie himself in 2024, Speights played all 17 games and started 10. Hill-Green has an ironic opportunity to do the same.

He has added some bulk to his college frame, clocking in at 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds. That puts his build right between Speights, who is an inch shorter and 234, and Landman, also 234 pounds but at 6-foot-3. Hill-Green profiles as a nimble coverage 'backer to support Landman's work against the run.

His senior-year stat line won't wow anyone. Hill-Green accumulated 60 tackles, five tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. He recorded three passes defensed.

But he also surged toward the end of the season when the stakes reached their highest. In a three-game sample covering the Conference Championship against Georgia and extending through Alabama's playoff run to the Quarterfinals, Hill-Green accounted for 16 tackles, two TFLs, and 2 PDs.

It was kinda daunting at 1st but actually was pretty cool over a short period of time. Switching calls from rooms, to offices to buildings. The outdoor pool, the golf course, the lower lodge etc.....My mom at 1 time worked her way through school doing that in NYC at some high highfalutin company...LOL...

When I watch those old B/W movies they sometimes have an operator scene at 1...that's what I was doing for a half hour or so a day....Now a days? I have sat around with songs in my head for 30+ years not taking the time to get the music written down for them... mostly because I couldn't find the right chords or chord progression to get me to the next step.

Now it doesn't always do a great job... and sometimes it will get creative... sometimes it's good sometimes not. Free to try. $10 a month on a monthly basis.

I paid $10 and did 20 songs. Some under a minute, some 6 minutes.

It is SUPER FUN... if you like writing music, or just melodies... It is amazing... and the end of real musicians? I mean maybe. Not for performing but on recordings? I could see it. Not an end but something very different. Bittersweet for sure.

Here's song my wife wrote... well she wrote the words... So I wrote the melody... I am including this song because we talk through it... I say "I hate that" and then she says "I think the way I write doesn't match the way you write songs". lol... so the app doesn't know it's not part of the song so it just includes. But the app stays pretty close to the melody... It will add a run but you can prompt it to add dry vocals... which is how I prefer it. This one allows for the vocal to be free.. and changed it to a female vocal. Crazy times... It will keep playing more songs... they aren't mine lol. After it got over one in German played. lol I know a little German... but I don't think it's him. lol

One day before training camp begins, the Los Angeles Rams have reached an agreement with first-round pick Ty Simpson.

The quarterback will sign a four-year rookie contract worth $25.4 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Simpson, who was selected No. 13 overall, will receive a $14.94 million signing bonus.

Aaron Donald is the talk of the town as the Los Angeles Rams get set for training camp. He’s continuing to mull over the possibility of returning to the Rams for this season, working out in the weight room and training on the team’s practice field.

He sure seems like he’s working toward a return, but nothing has been determined yet. NFL Network’s Steve Wyche believes it’s probably going to happen, though.

Wyche said on Friday after the “Rams Revealed Live” event on Thursday night that “every indication” suggests that he’s “probably going to do it.”

“Aaron Donald is putting in the on-field work to really see if this is something he’s about to do. And every indication that I got was that he’s probably going to do it,” Wyche said.

Donald was recently seen working out at the Rams’ facility, which Wyche says wasn’t a “one-off” and that he’s been ramping up his training regimen in advance of a potential comeback.

“I spoke to someone who said, ‘Remember that video a couple weeks ago of Aaron Donald working out at the Rams’ facility doing the on-field work? That was not a one-off. He is putting in the work on the field to see if this is something he really wants to do.’ But he is training as if he’s going to take it up to, ‘OK, I really got this. I can really, really do this,’” Wyche reported.

The timeline for Donald to possibly return is fluid. From the people Wyche has talked to, it seems like if Donald does come back, it will be at some point during training camp to get acclimated to his new teammates.

“Everyone you talk to with the Rams organization says if he does this, Aaron Donald does nothing halfway,” Wyche added. “They would expect him to come back at some point during training camp, not only to get himself physically ready, but to indoctrinate himself into a roster to which he hasn’t been a part of for two years.”

I paraphrase: If a team that is drafting at a certain position in round one sees a QB that they think is a round 1 QB talent when it is their turn to draft, it overrides all other choices. It doesn't matter if you have a great QB already. Doesn't matter if you have a need for another player at a different position. The QB is so valuable above all other positions, that if you take that QB and all he does is sit and develop for a couple of years behind your star QB, and then plays enough to show he's growing and has got true high level starting NFL potential, at worst you have a player with great trade value.

There are obvious caveats, such as the player is just a bust. But you can't draft on that basis. If your brain trust is convinced of that QBs talent level, you pull the trigger. If you can't rely on your own organization to properly evaluate, and you don't trust yourself to make the right call, then you are in big trouble.

IMO he's generally correct. Green Bay used that philosophy for a long time and it worked out quite well. I think that the Rams took all factors into account this past draft, and knew the chances were high that Simpson would be there at 13. The Rams brain trust was convinced he was a round one talent QB with the exact attributes McVay wants for his style of offense. Doesn't matter what other teams thought. 23 other teams thought GB was wrong about Aaron Rogers. Rams could have had Lemon or a couple of other players that might have contributed more this year. But, QB overrides that.

One more thing: Polian remarked that it is fool's gold to be so sure that next year will be a great QB draft. Last year at this time, it was the same thought for this past draft. But, several of the "sure things" played far below what was expected, others stayed in school, and voila... only 2 QBs are drafted in round 1. No GM worth his salt would plan and make decisions this year assuming those same QBs will all be in line next April as solid 1st round picks.

Again, this is a GMs perspective. I realize fans, media podcasters, perhaps even coaches might see it differently. But, the guy who makes the decisions is the GM.
