NFL keeps Brendan Sorsby out of supplemental draft

The NFL is sticking it to Brendan Sorsby.

PFT has confirmed that the NFL has decided not to conduct a supplemental draft in July 2026. This means that Sorsby will not enter the NFL until the April 2027 draft.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL believed there was insufficient time to fully investigate his gambling activities.

That’s a cop-out, in our view. They could have (and perhaps should have) begun exploring the matter from the moment it became clear — in late April — that Sorsby may end up applying for the supplemental draft. Also, the league didn’t have to investigate Sorsby’s gambling to determine whether he is or isn’t eligible to be drafted.

There’s no rule regarding eligibility for the draft that relates to gambling prior to entering the NFL.

The next question becomes whether Sorsby will fight the NFL’s decision in court. Because Sorsby has not yet been drafted, he’s not part of the union. Lawyer Jeffrey Kessler, who won a temporary injunction restoring Sorsby’s NCAA eligibility 15 days ago, could file a lawsuit seeking a temporary restraining order and/or a preliminary injunction.

The NFL currently has two players who engaged in similar gambling behavior to Sorsby while in college. Patriots receiver Kayshon Boutte bet on LSU games in which he played for LSU (Sorsby didn’t play in any of the Indiana games on which he wagered); Boutte was never punished in any way by the league. Saints quarterback Hunter Dekkers permanently lost his NCAA eligibility for gambling on Iowa State while he was on the Iowa State roster. His entry into the NFL was not delayed.

But, as mentioned recently, the NFL has a reputation for making the rules up as it goes. Tight end Terrance Ferguson had a difficult rookie season for the Los Angeles Rams. The 46th overall pick entered the year with high expectations as the frontrunner in LA's 2025 draft class. It was disappointing, then, when he did not earn any consistent role, finishing the season with just 11 catches.

Those within the Rams' organization aren't concerned about Ferguson's potential or growth. They believe he is already on the cusp of a sophomore leap, per intel from ESPN's Sarah Barshop, who covered the Rams portion of a pre-training-camp assessment of each team's "biggest surprise" thus far.

"everal people in the Rams' building have pointed to Ferguson as a player they think will take a big step forward in Year 2," wrote Barshop. "Tight end Tyler Higbee said while the position is 'one of the tougher' spots to transition from college to the NFL, Ferguson has 'got it.' 'He's going to be a great player,' Higbee said."

Coming from Higbee, the tight-end room's senior representative, that means a lot. Ferguson has plenty to prove, and it sounds like he is on track to do just that.

Year 2 Ferguson is ready to come into his own

Ferguson is suited to a clear, if uncanny role in the Rams' offense; he just has to earn an expanded opportunity. That role is serving as a de facto WR3, stretching the field as a deep threat from the slot or out wide. He did that last year in limited reps, averaging 21 yards per catch with an average depth of target of 18.6 yards.

For Ferguson, though, taking the next step also means being more than just a deep ball specialist. He can factor more into the short and mid-range game and shore up as a blocker. Higbee and Parkinson will still be go-to veterans in short-area, run-heavy, and goal-line scenarios, but simply getting his foot in the door will make Ferguson an exponentially more valuable weapon.

Not only will he be able to contribute in a variety of sets and schemes, it will also be harder for defenses to anticipate his assignment on a given play. It won't be as simple as, 'Oh, hey, there's Ferguson, be ready for a deep post route.'

The good news is that, in the eyes of Higbee and others in team circles, Ferguson demonstrated significant progress in OTAs.

Granting Ferguson a bigger role if he earns it also falls on head coach Sean McVay, who has historically been reluctant to utilize young pass-catchers consistently. With a year of experience under his belt, Ferguson should make that less of an issue, anyway. Now that McVay has mastered 13-personnel, too, he may have an even clearer vision of how to maximize his individual tight ends according to their specific skill sets.

Don't take just anyone's word for it, take Higbee's. Ferguson has the 'it' factor, and Rams fans may see it on display sooner rather than later.

Like many here, I refused to buy any of the new stuff. It just doesn't "hit me" the same way the older designs did. The only new things I have are some hats with the new Rams head logo which didn't look too bad other than the issue with nose looking like a piece of the male anatomy. lol However, they seemed to have realized their mistake and have corrected it on the latest designs. Thank goodness!

The stolen ASU logo is 100% unwearable for me. It looks like crap and was stolen from Angelo State University. Besides, I see no reason to buy merch that only reps the "City". I am a Rams fan...not an LA fan. lol

I did see the below shirt which actually looks pretty good to me. It has a little bit of an "old school" vibe. If they had this in a 3/4 sleeve, and the price was reasonable, I def would buy one but $65 is a little expensive for a T-Shirt!!!

another old band I can cross off my bucket list

were I live , we get two or three big time bands a year , who are a little past their prime

but it's great , over the years , I had alot of chances to see bands I never got to back in their prime

like last year , got to see Journey and REO Speedwagon , although , technically their little more then cover bands anymore , although STYX did still have three , mostly originally members ( Tommy Shaw ) was not actually an original member

was never a Dennis DeYoung fan, but STYX was never the same since he left

they all sounded all right last night , for the most part, the guy replacing Dennis DeYoung was kinda annoying

I've always liked STYX , not saying they were ever one of my favorite bands , but there are a ton of memory berries when it comes to STYX

My wife always had a big crush on Tommy Shaw , which was probably the main reason we went.................lol

their album Paradise Theatre was still a big hit when we were dating in High School

The Los Angeles Rams havedisbanded OTAs, leaving fans with questions over who did and did not claim a piece of the spotlight. After all the exciting upheaval this offseason, the impact on the roster is tough to gauge in shorts, T-shirts, and sneakers. So let's sit back for a moment and take it all in as a whole.

Los Angeles is undergoing significant changes. How can it be otherwise? 20-odd players are pending free agents or extension candidates. The team will eventually need to transition to younger players at multiple key positions.

OTAs are the first hint of what's to come, and that's what makes a summary worth digging into.

Rams fans encounter mostly predictable (but still exciting) OTA winners, plus a loser

Loser: QB Jimmy Garoppolo

Let's get this one out of the way first. While the team officially lobbied for veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's return, the front office acted quickly to fill the void. Not only did the Rams select Ty Simpson with the 13th pick, they also added undrafted rookie Matt Caldwell. And don't forget about Stetson Bennett.

Nearing 35 years of age, playing behind Matthew Stafford, and facing three younger quarterbacks nipping at his heels for playing time is no way to enjoy the twilight of his 12-year NFL career.

Garoppolo could still sign with a quarterback-needy team, but his absence from LA's OTAs almost guarantees he won't be back for the Horns. Given how well he fit in Los Angeles and the limited opportunities remaining elsewhere, that feels like a loss for his camp.

Winner 1: Quarterback Ty Simpson

While fans are gnawing at the bit to see what Ty Simpson can do on a football field, coaches are more interested in how he conducts himself in the quarterback room. Remember the challenges in getting another young quarterback, Jared Goff, up to snuff on reading defenses?

Rest easy. Simpson is a full participant in breaking down video footage and analyzing defenses, which is exactly what coaches are looking for.

For now, he is studying the playbook and learning from coaches, teammates, and other Rams quarterbacks. That can be a humbling experience for a prima donna-type rookie. Simpson isn't that. He already appears to be making steady progress, a clear indication the Rams chose wisely in the draft.

Winner 2: Rams secondary

The Rams not only upgraded the talent in the secondary, they also elevated its versatility. Chris Shula has a brand-new arrow in his quiver of tricks. Expect to see a lot of disguised coverages early on this season.

A pupil of previous Rams DCs Wade Phillips, Brandon Staley, and Raheem Morris, Shula has a keen sense of how to scheme aggressively while masking what he intends. That's an excellent model for 2026, as the offense needs more support from the defense - and more big plays on that side of the ball - to find sustainable success. Now Shula has real weapons to work with.

Winner 3: Cornerback Trent McDuffie

All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie is more than a blue-chip player to add to the defense. His presence is already being felt in and outside the Rams' building, his approachable demeanor instantly endearing him to players, coaches, and fans alike. In short, McDuffie is getting the red-carpet treatment in LA.

Shula, his new coordinator, has a knack for optimizing top-tier talent. Much like Jalen Ramsey on the Rams' Super Bowl roster, McDuffie finds himself as the maestro of the secondary symphony. He's proven he can be effective from anywhere. That bonus benefit isn't getting enough attention.

Winner 4: Edge rusher Myles Garrett

Rams fans understood that Jared Verse had power and speed that allowed Shula to line him up almost anywhere along the defensive front. Now, Shula has one of the fiercest pass rushers in the game in Myles Garrett. Even better.

Shula elaborated on Garrett's perceived role as OTAs wound down. In short, Shula plans to optimize schemes for Garrett, not the other way around:

"Obviously, we're still going to have our principles with that stuff, but we're going to let him do what he does best, and we all know exactly what he does best.

You're not going to take Michael Jordan, LeBron, all those guys and pull them out of their comfort zone. We're going to work with him and put him in the best spots that we think for him and the defense to succeed."

Just like Verse (only to a higher degree of magnitude), Garrett is about to go nuts on opposing offenses.
