And if the Rams had lost to Tampa Bay in the NFC Championship game that year ... none of us would be able to use that analogy in defending any team. The point Speed is making - to me, anyway - is that it's just a wee bit early to anoint any team.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
I'm simply pointing out the obvious that has been hiding in plain sight. A season win-total that would have almost seemed pie-in-the-sky in August ... would most likely be a bit of a disappointment here three weeks before Christmas. My post was meant to highlight the changing expectations of we fans. That's all.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
***The Eagles will be the best team that both Seattle and the Rams have faced this season.*** And the Seahawks and Rams will be the best teams Philadelphia has faced this season. It should also be noted that today's game is the first of two-straight cross-country trips for the Eagles - today in Seattle; next Sunday in Los Angeles. What happens if Philly loses both those games?by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
... I've found there's something that's often exhilarating about admitting an error. Sometimes it's embarrassing. Sometimes it's downright damning. Other times it can be crippling. Even life-changing - positively and negatively. But ... of the most part ... to be able to say to someone, and genuinely mean it, 'I was wrong' ... there is a cleansing feeling. Would 10-6 be enough to satisfy Rams' fans that 2017 has far exceeded expectations? It's a question I have been thinking about for several weeks. As is commonplace, there were lots of posts before the season began about predicting the Rams' final record this year. MOST people who came here were in the area of 5-7 wins. This year would be the first step in another long rebuild. Had youby The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
... that, had the Rams not hired McVay after last season, it was just a matter of time - months ... maybe days or weeks - before he was going to be a head coach in the NFL. He was certainly going to be hired after *this* season. Sooooooo ... it wasn't like McVay was just desperate to take any ol' NFL job - because he considered it a last-chance opportunity. What's your take on Iowa's Akrum Wadley? He goes about 5-11 and 190. Not explosive speed ... but good. Had a bit of an off-year in 2017 ... but has been highly productive during his career. Decent pass-catcher. Solid blocker. Etc. Clearly ... he's not a first- or even second-round talent ... but seems a nice fit in the middle rounds for teams needing to add backfield depth. In August 1999, we went to Canton for Eric Dickerson’s Hall of Fame induction. After the ceremony was over that day, we were in the Hall of Fame gift shop, and I found myself standing next to Tony Dorsett. Dorsett was to my immediate right, and we were almost shoulder to shoulder, looking over the same display or whatever. No big whoop or anything. Certainly, Dorsett was a great player.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
... that Watkins has only been with the Rams for a couple of months. Not even that. Everyone else has been on the club since the spring. It's gonna take just a little bit of time for him to become completely comfortable in everything. With everything. Not only on the field - but in his life. Young's "record" during his first two years in Tampa Bay - in 1985 and '86 - was 3-16. He completed 53% of 501 throws. He averaged 6.4 yards per-attempt. He had 11 touchdowns; 21 interceptions. Something happened between 1986 and his induction into the Hall of Fame in 2005. Oh, yeah! Bill Walsh happened.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com

Granted, Russell has really developed into a force. *Some people* can say whatever they want about him ... but he wasn't this player earlier in his career. Losing Whitworth not only hurt them on the field ... my guess is it hurt them in the clubhouse, as well. The Brown family's decades' long focus on the bottom line has short-circuited that team so many times over the years.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
Timmerman turned into something of a clubhouse lawyer the longer he was with the Rams. Became something of a fairly divisive voice. I don't sense that's Whitworth's MO.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
Football is a game of mistakes. There's no other way to put it. For example ... Goff's throw to Gurley the other day. We marvel and rave and clap our hands and talk about what a great moment that was. At the same time, on the other side of the coin, the Cowboys' defensive coaches are pulling their hair out with the *failures* of their personnel to properly defend the play. *His* window. He took advantage, no doubt. But ... I question the way he went about it. His comments about McVay and Goff seem to indicate he's still the same arrogant primadonna that he has always been. Finally ... what ultimately closed the window for Martz was his inability to change and adapt and adjust. He was either way, way too stubborn ... or didn't have the ability to do those tby The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
Fabulous, once-in-ten-year talent, who is quickly becoming this generation's version of Terrell Owens. Regarding Elliott ... a fine running back, but not better than Gurley. There is also a lot of scuttle that the Cowboys believe that they are always going to have to worry about what this guy is up to off the field.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
Textbook, too. I will also point out, again, about Gurley's position at the time Goff commits to making the throw. Gurley isn't even with either Cowboys' defender ... but Goff is seeing it 10-12 yards further down the field. A quarterback simply can't throw that route any better ... it terms of anticipation and accuracy. The first one is obvious - he's the best interior defensive lineman in the game. Maybe defensive lineman, period. The second is the message that trading Donald would send to the rest of the league and its players. In less than a year ...
